LHD/RHD G-Wagen differences

Can anyone help me as to the differences (in particular differences in the engine) between left hand and right hand drive 230GEs manufactured in about 1989. Much appreciated.

I don't know about the G's but I've owned a right hand drive 307d and a left hand drive 409d and I can't imagine any way in which the difference in driving side would effect the engine. I have also not noticed any differences in the engine (apart from the extra cylinder on the 9). What makes you think the engines might be different?

Apparently the seventh digit of the engine number is a 1 for LHD and a 2 for RHD; I'm dealing with a RHD vehicle with a 1. However, MB has confirmed that they used LHD engine numbers for RHD vehicles at the particular time this one was manufactured. Some ancillaries are mounted on the other side of the block, that is the only difference.

Engine number (at least on the M102 4-cylinder). I've resolved the query; thanks for everyone's help.
