I'm glancing around for a Unimog, anyone know where on is thatrs is reasonable pricewise?

Depends on what you consider reasonable I guess;)

The biggest source of Unimog links I know of is at www.rockymountainmoggers.com There you will find quite a few Mog sellers. I bought mine from Sean Phillyaw near Atlanta, great guy. He owns www.eurotruck-importers.com You can also find them on the email list at topica.com, the list is called mogml.

The early gas powered 404 series trucks normally sellfor $6-8,000. Getting into the more substantial diesel powered models (406,416) means spending anywhere from $10-40,000 depending on condition and equipment.

There is a couple on Ebay right now. I know of a few more. What are ur needs, wishes desires? What is your intended driving, highway and offroad, offroad only, towing.. etc etc.?


Just be wise and dont assume ANYTHING. They are NOTHING like a normal truck such as highway speeds etc.

G-man, I dont care if it runs or not, odds are its gonna get a 4bt anyway. Why you ask? Cheaper parts, more power and damn near every diesel bread truck on the planet has one.


I'm looking at one for a occassional driver and as a trail rig. Not to mention no one on my block has one. :D

Speaking of Mogs,
I am looking at a 404 Mog. For use in my HVAC/R service buisness, a radio box or ambulance type.
Anyone know what the insurance will cost to put one on the road?
I called my Insurace Co. to get a quote and they had no idea what I was talking about!
They also wanted the GVW of one, anyone know?
Also has anyone ever dealt with Mecardia in NV. They have alot of 404's for sale.

Weight wise you are just under the need for commercial liscence. 10,000 lb or there abouts.

Mercardia (Bart and Daisy) are STAND UP folk. New to the US and eager to sell. He has direct contacts on the other side of the pond where Mogs usta grow on trees. He just moved here... from there. Tell him Coach George sent tya.

Dont insure it as a Unimog. Insure it as an MB truck. Say it is model UNIMOG 404xxx or some such verbiage. Saves ya shiat loads of hassle.

Remember... Dont send ur flunky's out driving it if they will drive it at 55mph or higher from job to job. They will eat the tranny alive. It is NOT a highway friendly rig.

BE WARNED- More than one person/business has come up with the same idea as you. They get it and year later they sell it, usually at a loss. Now a 416 or newer... thats plausable.

Maybe I should be looking for another type of truck. With that weight the insurance will be high.
we dont do a lot of hiway driving but some, So maybe a 416 Diesel with radio box ??
Or Maybe I should stick with American Trucks :mad:

Well, there is something to be said for having a truck that stands out in your case' cause it would help draw attention to your business. For this a Mog would be AWSOME even though not as practical for use as u would like.

That being said; other MB trucks can be found with a "serious" search that once you get it decked out and in service for you might draw as much attention as a Mog would. I think they have the same engine in them as the 416 but different tranny's and rear axle. (non 4wd). Practical speeds still in the 55mph range but dont have the trany issues etc.

Yes, Thats one of the reasons I want a Mog or an MB truck, to stand out above the rest.
Any idea were I should start my serious search for a MB truck that will not get into serious $$$ ?

I have been thinking about buying a Mog again myself, mostly because I am getting the 300CD back into shape, and I can sell my Subaru for a profit and have almost enough money to buy a 404 :D

There is a guy that is selling his 404.1 for $5,000 down in Palm Springs, Cal. I f you are interested e-mail or pm me.

There is one for around 3500 for sale in South FL. Does not need to much work. Price is low not due to Mog's condition but due to the condition of owner.
