2000 ML430 Transmission problem?

This morning, I started my car as usual, put gear in "R" and backed out to the road, put in back to "D", went forward for about 3 seconds put car in "N", waited for my wife to come out... then try to put car in "R" or "D" but nothing happened, car just rev'ed when i stepped on gas pedal.... shifted back and forth a coupe of times, still no luck. Put gear back to "P", turned car off then start again... then gear works...

My question...is my trans going to die on me or is this just one of the glitches??? Please help out!!! Thanks...

2000 ML430 ~66000miles...

Wouldn't we like to know?

I was watching a video about the 722.6 tranny yesterday and it pointed out that the MB tranny was different from about every other electronic trans in that the shift solenoids only activate during the shift. They do not stay applied. This allows the car to fail safe in a high gear (and hopefully get you home). Once restarted if in failsafe it will start in second gear.

I mention this to point out that the problem is possibly not electrical. My guess is a valve stuck briefly in the VB.
