Oil Filter Changed?
I just changed the oil on my '99 ML320. I bought the oil filter at the dealer, and it is wrapped and glued on some sort of cord I have never seen before in any of my previous oil changes. I always buy these filters at the dealer.
I also got the oil filter for my new to me '00 C280 which they told me it's the same. Is there a recent change on this oil filter, or I've got the wrong one? I called back the parts department and they are not aware of any changes. Thanks, Rene |

Oh, you mean like a "net" around the filter? Yeah, I think I've seen those. Kind of plasticy stuff. What's the brand name on the filter itself, should say on one of the end plates. You can also quote the MB part number if you want. MB changes stuff like this from time to time, I know I've seen some of the older filters come apart when owners were a little to "flexible" on their "Flexible Service System" and left them in a few dozen thousand miles too long.
On the observation that the filters are the same between your C280 and ML320, these are in the same "family" of engines (M112) and are practically identical. The oil filters are the same. Gilly

Thanks Gilly,
Exactly, it is like a net around it. The part number is A000 180 26 09. On the filter it says A112 184 05 25, MB made in Germany, Mann filter HU 718 /5. Rene |
