ML320 Horn does not Blow.

All of a sudden I have no horn.
I checked the horn fuse .
I checked the horn replay.
I checked the alarm fuse.
I ran a hot wire from battery to horn and the horn blew ok.
When i push on the wheel to blow the horn, there is a ticking noise in the box where the relays/fuses are located.

What should I test next?? thanks.

Check the lead from the horn with a voltage tester...it should have a reading when the horn button is pressed. If you are getting a reading, then the terminal ends may be defective or not providing good contact.

Also you have TWO horns...there are slim odds that both have failed or no juice getting to both...so that would leave the only possibility that the actual lead from the fuse to the horn(s) has been compromised.

Any engine servicing performed on your ML lately?

no service has been performed.
I have one horn on the firewall on the drivers side. The 2nd must be hidden pretty good.

the horn you're looking at is the alarm horn and has absolutely zero to do with what happens when you press on the steering wheel. there are three horns total. the alarm horn against the firewall, one in the LF wheelwell at the bumper and one in the front of the RF wheel well. check those two out first and let us know what you find.

ML320 Horn Location

I love you guys.
Thanks for the info.

I searched for months for a good maintenance book for the ML320.
Paid $30 on Ebay for some Floppy disc's that were crap. Paid $50 for a thick Chilton on SUV's which hardly covered the ML.

Thanks again for the direction. This Web site with is the ticket.

3/10/2004 update - I found the horns. Only checked one so far (right) and the horn was so rusted ,, the negative wire rusted off with the connection that origionally was part of the horn. I soldered on a new wire to the horn..and put JB weld over the fix. Will update with results.

3/11/2004 right horn now works. Left horn not yet.
I fit into the "SLIM ODDS" catagory. Both horns seem broke.

3/26/2004
Sure Enough, replaced the Left horn with a Honda 700 Magna horn and I have sound. Right side quit again, so I am done patching the origionals and will replace the right side with a honda horn also. ( I restore motorcycles and have horns in my part bins).
