One Brake light out... but the bulb is good!

The rear right brake light is out... but the bulb is good.
The left and center lights are fine... anyone have a clue?
Is there a sending unit or module that failed?

How do you know the bulb is good?

Besides looking at it myself I took it to the local Mercedes dealer.
After he said the bulb was good he told my wife we needed to make an appointment... a 2 month wait.
This is a safety issue that needs to rectified as fast as possible.
Any ideas?

Replace the bulb yourself and see if the dealer is being straight with you. The bulb is not very expensive.

I vote bad bulb. Had one fail after just 2 years on ours.

Replaced the bulb.
It works fine.
Commence with the flogging.

And one more thing...
I just called the service manager at the dealership to inquire about this "drive in" and he told me that "his greeter" replaced the bulb... and it did'nt work... but that the greeter moved it around and it blinked... but then went off. He went on to say that the connection my be frayed and that if I got it to work then good for me.
I won't name the dealer. But I will tell you that if you're driving through PARAMUS, NEW JERSEY and need Mercedes Benz Dealer service, be forewarned... or just keep driving until you hit Manhattan.

User a multimeter

Simply use a multimeter and see if the bulb works or just use some wires and plug it directly to the battery to see if it lights up, It may have lost the gas inside thus thats why it doesn't work..

There is no gas in the bulb, just the opposite there is supposed to be a vacuum.

When I bought my wife's ML320 in October 2001 (its a 99) the left rear indicator wouldn't work. I suspected the bulb but a replacement still didn't work.

While troubleshooting the problem, I found one of the connector pins for the rear light assembly was bent and not making a connection.

I don't think that the rear LH indicator light had ever worked and I don't think that anyone other than following drivers had ever noticed!

Watch those connector pins, they are easy to bend.
