Great shop in NYC
Hey all:
I have found the absolute best shop. They are extremely honest, do not overcharge, and stick to their estimates. They were working on a SEC AMG and a 300 SEL 6.3 when I took my car in. One of the owners is on his third 190E 2.3-16v, he loves the car. They were able to diagnose correctly the leaking diaphragms for the climate control, and fixed it perfectly. The name of the shop is Chander Auto Repair (212) 243-0145 and it is located in Manhattan in New York City.

I had an evaporator replaced at Chander Auto Repair. (212) 243-0145 ask for Chris. He worked on my car for much of the summer doing that and other things so he would know it (Peter with the 16v). His labor rates are the best I've seen in NY, but his parts supplier was very expensive for the evaporator. As he is flexible and honest, I told him about fastlane, and he simply called Phil and ordered it from him and the whole thing ended up much cheaper. He fixed a problem with my climate control that 2 other "top" mercedes mechanics struggled with for a while and couldn't fix.

I think the labor was charged at 2 hours, it must have been around 140 in labor (70 an hour if I remember correctly).

Any recent feedback on Premier Auto
Hi, looking for some people who have been to Premier Auto recently and can provide feedback... What was wrong and did they fix it? Were they fair? It's really important to have someone who knows these cars and whom I can trust. I live in Brooklyn and it's a helluva schlep out to the Bayone Bridge.
Plus, I have to find a way back home... Thanks.

Are you ready? Listen, my friend...
Vito is a god.
I've spent upwards of $6K with him and Joe at Premier, and I do not regret one second. Vito can fix ANY car, and he know MBs well. The prices are extremely reasonable, and Vito actually *cares* about his reputation as an indy mechanic. He *wants* happy customers. He prides himself on doing good, solid work. And no, I'm not related to him. He and Joe have: 1. Replaced the wiring harness, MAS, OVP relay, fuel pump, battery, plugs, radiator 2. Put on new brakes 3. Added a Rhino lining to the undercarriage (this is Joe's bailiwick) 4. Taken a ding out of my door 5. Replaced the front bumper (cracked) 6. Put in my Audio 10CD radio 7. Fixed a rust spot on the trunk lid And more stuff I can't even remember right now. What else do you need to know? Tell me. Also, where in BK are you? Premier is only 20 mins away from me, and I can give you direx if you need them. If you call, talk to Vito--and tell him Alison sent you!

Thanks for the feedback
I'm afraid of going to someplace I don't know to do potentially 'big ticket' items and getting taken advantage of or (worse) of not getting the work done right the first time and then having to go back due to incompetence. I appreciate your remarks and any other feedback from Vito and Joe's customers. Before I go out to SI and take the bus all the way back home for hours and hours, I'd like to feel sure that it is worth it.
I live in Brooklyn by Prospect Expressway and Ft. Hamilton Parkway. thanks again

Believe me, I understand that...
Of course, there's only so much certainty you're going to have the first time you go anyplace. As you can see from reading messages on this forum, there are many horror stories about MB dealerships, so it would be foolish to say any shop is 100 percent perfect for every single person. BUT...statistics aside, Premier is not overpriced--you'll save at least 50 percent off dealership prices; and Vito knows what he's doing. He can fix Lexus, BMW, MB, and any domestic model, and he also does custom work and rebuilds. But you can always call him and talk to him before you go up there and see how you feel. There's also Kraft German Auto, on East 53rd in Flatbush, although I've never been there. I admit, the trip back without wheels is longish--2 hours when I took the ferry and the subway--but it's worth it for me.
