Thanks for the very rare mp3 finding one of those babies running must have been somewhat of a quest.

Hmmm...my wife owned a 92 XJS V-12 with the same engine configuration, and (perhaps due to the Ford acquisition) sounded far more docile than that!

Wow!

You guys remember Tom Walkinshaw Racing's Porsche 962 beating Jags from the late 80's early 90's? Those were racecars!

XJ Saloon Shoppers Guide

Series I-II-III Variants

"All of the USA Series III cars (1980 through 1987) were 4.2 equipped. Rest-of-world models could have a 3.4L six cylinder or the much-desired V12, as well as a wide variety of trim levels and model designations. All North American models were sold “fully optioned”. The US market saw only two models, the standard-issue XJ6 and the upscale Vanden Plas. The “VDP” was mechanically unchanged from the standard model but featured many interior refinements.
_
The twelve-cylinder production carried on through the end of 1992, with many enhancements. The V12 Series III model was never brought into the USA officially but a stray cat or two has mysteriously found it’s way past the federal gendarmes. Some sources say a small number of V12's came to the USA very early on, before Jaguar or the EPA pulled the plug. A mint condition Series III V12 will command a very high price, far higher than standard issue XJ’s."

This is why you don't see much of them in the states. there was no law against importing them in Canada, so there are quite a few here....RUNING!
It is a myth that Jaguar engine are unriliable (according to entousiast sites, clubs etc.) the week point is the Borg Wagner tranny, especialy the XJ6.
The V12 requires an excellent cooling system. The infamus electrical problem are mostly one of these : fuses, connectors or switches. The years to stay away are (from memory) 79-82.

Personaly, implanting a GM350ci that will probably not make 75K is the most redicule thing (mecanicly speeking) I have seen.
If you whant more power, the best implant for an XJ6 is a V12@270hp stock tnanny and all.
The original XJ6 4.2L had 240hp and for some reason when downe to 180hp (can be brought back to 240hp) and came back up in the serieslll.
There are kit to fit GM trannys and one for a toyota 5 speed. Before trashing a perfectly good/better engine and "lumping in" a 350ci, get some data about these car first.

ATTENTION : I may regret these word, because I'm about (wenesday) to aquire a 1973 XJ6 series1, I hope what I have read is exact!
Will post pics of it if everything goes right. Wish me luck you JBBs ("Jaguar Bashing Bastergez")

so did you get the jag? My uncle tells me storys of the Jags he brought home when he was in the military. His favorite is the one about how he learned to tune each carbarator perfectly. Sad thing is I don't know all of it. But it sounds like music to me.

Ha yes the coupe, only on series 2@ a very limited number of them made 1,000 something.
Even less V12!
What were the problems with it?
