How dare they dub the sound of a mb door closing!!

I just finished watching the movie, "Man on a Train" and in it is a
85ish mb 300d and when the doors close, you hear the distinct
non-sound of the mb door closing.

One thing about mb's is the unique sound of door closings. How dare they take take poetic license and use some lousy GM sound.

The Foley Masters in that movie should have their certificates pulled...

They did redeem themselves later by using the actual door closing sound later in the flick.

I'd be willing to bet that that sort of thing happens more often than we think that it does!

Depends on the location they're filming in...Sometimes conditions "on location" (such as wind noise, ambient noise from nearby roads, etc.) do not allow them to get a quality live recording of the sounds that they need, so they must be overdubbed later in the studio, from "stock" sound effect sources.

Fortunately for us, not everyone appreciates the vault-like sound of an old MB door closing. If everyone did, then we would have to pay a LOT more for our old 123s/116s/115s/126s, etc....

I supervised once the sound effects for a short movie, for days we would listen to all the sounds on the CD's; from doors closing, cars driving away, foot steps etc. etc. I still hear those sounds back in commercials and TV shows, it's like a deja vu when I hear them again.

I was on business last week and the rental counter gave me a new Grand Prix...getting in and closing the door was the first rude awakening that I was away from home...

...coming back and getting to my car waiting at the airport was nice...closing THAT door reminded me that I was truly "home"!
