:rolleyes: In the spirit of fair play and mindful that the Dems and Reps shouldn't get all the good ink here, I present for your consideration and amusement, Mr. Rick Stanley.

In 2002 Mr. Stanley ran for US Senate as the Libertarian candidate. He sought to serve the people of Colorado for six years Congress. Yesterday Mr. Stanley was ordered to serve the poeple of Colorado six years in grey bar hotel.

BRIGHTON - Gun-rights activist Rick Stanley, a Denver businessman and former Libertarian candidate for the U.S. Senate, was sentenced to six years in prison Friday for threatening two judges.
Stanley, 49, owner of Stanley Fastener & Shop Supply in northeast Denver, was taken from Adams County District Court in handcuffs.
"When you really analyze it, this is an assault on the very system of justice in this country," said presiding Judge Joseph R. Quinn, a retired state Supreme Court justice.
Stanley's attorney, Brett Davies, said the punishment was "worse" than expected.
"They've made a monster out of him," Davies said.
In addition to prison time - three years each for the two judges - Stanley was sentenced to six years of mandatory parole and ordered to pay $10,000 in fines, plus $8,250 restitution to police who worked overtime to protect the judges. Quinn set an $80,000 bond and said Stanley must be monitored by the court until his appeal is resolved.
Unlike previous court appearances, in which hallways and doorways were crowded with police and a SWAT team and metal detectors were deployed, there was no extra security at the courthouse Friday.
Davies gave the judge 89 letters of support for Stanley "attesting to his good moral character." "Free Rick Stanley" signs dotted roadways.
Stanley was found guilty in late June of two felony counts of attempting to influence a public official. He was accused of sending Thornton Municipal Judge Charles J. Rose and 17th Judicial District Judge Donald W. Marshall Jr. a "notice of order" demanding that they reverse his conviction for a weapons violation or face arrest by Stanley's Mutual Defense Pact Militia and a trial for treason.
Rose had convicted Stanley and sentenced him to 90 days in jail for carrying a firearm onto public property while campaigning in 2002 in Thornton. Marshall upheld the conviction when Stanley appealed.
Stanley argued that his sentence and record should have have been voided after Gov. Bill Owens signed a law limiting local governments from regulating firearms.
Stanley also was arrested in Denver in 2001 for carrying a loaded handgun in a holster at a Bill of Rights rally. In June, Stanley's home and business were raided by the Internal Revenue Service.
"I think Rick Stanley in prison is where Rick Stanley belongs," said Adams County District Attorney Robert Grant.
Stanley spoke before the sentencing.
"I was violated by men who have no honor or integrity," Stanley said. "The only victim here is Rick Stanley, on behalf of every American."
Rose also spoke before sentencing, referring to Stanley as "the felon."
"Never have I been so personally attacked verbally or threatened with bodily harm," Rose said. Rose described Stanley as a "paranoid demagogue with delusions of grandeur."
At one point, Rose asked Stanley to "call off the dogs."
Davies said that other than the events leading up to the sentencing - and four speeding tickets - Stanley has a clean record. Davies said his client has a right to free speech.
"There have been no overt threats of violence," Davies said.

What exactly did be do? I can't tell from his rantings what exactly he was charged with.

Sorry if it wasn't clear. While he was running for Senate, he went to a guns rights demonstration and alerted the media that he would be attending while carrrying a loaded gun, displayed in a holster on his hip. He was looking to get arrested to fight the charge.

So he gets arrested and charged with (I think) improper or reckless display of a firearm. He gets convicted.

He then files a motion with the court (below) which basically request the court to overturn his conviction and give back his gun and bullets or the judge will face a treason charge by the "Mutual Defense Pact Militia" which in turn leads to a new charge of attmepting to influence a judge. The conviction of which results in 6 years.

Notice and Order


This NOTICE to Judge Donald W. Marshall, Jr. is in regard to the
Stanley’s gun charge and arrest of openly carrying a weapon, in
violation of Thornton Ordinance TRMC38-237. This ordinance violates
Colorado Constitution Art. 2, Sec.3, by interfering with his natural,
essential, and inalienable right to self defense, under the color of
law, for the arrest, charge, and conviction against Rick Stanley.
The signing of SB-25 on March 18, 2003, affirms Article 2, Sec. 3, of
the State Constitution, and pre-empts this ordinance. Rick Stanley
demands that Judge Donald W. Marshall, Jr., overturn this conviction
of Stanley on constitutional grounds. Failure to do so will result in
a treason charge against Donald W. Marshall, Jr. for failure to
uphold the oath of office to defend the Constitutions, which this
court has on record, and Donald W. Marshall, Jr., swore to, as a
“condition” of his office. This treason charge, will result in a
Mutual Defense Pact Militia warrant for Donald W. Marshall, Jr.’s
arrest if the following conditions are not met:

1. Overturn the unconstitutional conviction of Rick Stanley for
violation of TRMC 38-237 because TRMC 38-237 violates the constitutional
rights of Rick Stanley, under the guise of “color of law.”
2. Return the $1,500.00 bond to Rick Stanley.
3. Return Rick Stanley’s property which consists of 1 each Smith
and Wesson 6 shot .357 pistol and 6 each .357 bullets.

This court is notified, once more, as Stanley gave Notice from the
beginning of the proceeding against him, Thornton Municipal Court
has “NO” jurisdiction over him in this matter.

Accordingly, this ORDER is affirmed.

We had a bunch like that in Texas a while ago. They declared Texas independent, set up their own state capital in a shanty in the Big Bend made from old RVs and starting issuing "Warrants" secured by public land, which they of course now owned. A few banks actually paid them. In addition, if you screwed with them, they filed liens against your property using bogus "Republic of Texas" documents, and again the banks and the State of texas actually processed some of them, which screwed up a lot of people's lives. The Rangers finally went in and shot a bunch of them, and now the "President" is this comical character with a Bozo haircut that they trot out in handcuffs whenever we need a laugh. I think a cop got killed in there somewhere, so they are all on death row, but don't quote me on that. They were actually getting a lot of public support until they snuck up on the cops outside the compound and intentionally shot their dogs. Republic of texas is one thing, but dog killers are no good sons of *****es. Everyone was glad when they got killed or corralled.

What is it about these people that they think they can interpret the constitution in a vacuum and never read any of the case law that has gone on for over two centuries to explain it? How do they write it off in their minds? No offense to libertarians or libertarian sympathizers, but they remind me of behavior disordered kids; when they're right, they're right, and when they're wrong, they're still right because the whole mechanism by which they have been found to be wrong is inherently faulty. Its like arguing with a communist.

We get them ins spades here in Texas. Both Koresh and the Republic of Texas guy were just living in their own weird worlds. There is some kind of reality break with these people. I 'm sorry the guy koop is talking about only got six years. We;ll be hearing about him again, probably blowing up a building or a barn full of kids.

He makes a media stand--I hate that crap. But that's his choice.

They bust him on the reckless charge. Not sure I like that one. But if that's how Colorodans believe, its their state. Have fun.

He threatens to bring charges against gov officials and gets six years? Did I read that right? In other words, he gets jail time for questioning authority through the legal system and you guys are okay with that?

Sorry, but I don't see the "threat" for which he's serving six years.

It is illegal in any state to make a threat against a judge with the purpose of influencing how he will decide a case. Claiming you will "arrest" him with a "militia" and haul him in front of a kangaroo court is a pretty clear threat to me. You can call it questioning authority if you like, but I would take it as a guy threatening me with an armed kidnapping by a bunch of paranoid whack jobs. Seems twelve people agree, because they are the ones who sent him to the joint, not the judge in the case.

After the man is kidnapped and tried by a kangaroo court, what do suppose his punishment for "treason" will be? This is a threat to use armed force by a gang, where the outcome is an implied threat of murder.

It seems the site is defunct, a true web tragedy, but I still found what I wanted on the Wayback Machine. The last Usefulness of Wackos page is worth seeing.

OK. I get it now. Sometimes it takes time for me to extrapolate.

He crossed the line when he said he would have the judge "arrested". These guys have a track record, originiating from the Posse Comitatus gang, of claiming a theory of "citizens arrest" that is outrageous and illegal, and of using as a basis for there violence, and of claiming they have some "juristiction", like their garage, where they can hold a "court". Under their theory, we can all go around arresting each other for treason.

That's better. Now I get it. Yeah he's a fruitcake. Six years--what other offenses has he committed? Shoot, he couldda killed a third-world convenience store clerk for that kind of time.
