Changing a lightbulb, forum style...

Copied from the Suburban forum I belong to...

**********************

How many forum members does it takes to change a light
bulb?

1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb
has been changed

14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and
how the light bulb could have been changed differently

7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs

1 to move it to the Lighting section

2 to argue then move it to the Electricals section

7 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about
changing light bulbs

5 to flame the spell checkers

3 to correct spelling/grammar flames

6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb"
... another 6 to condemn those 6 as stupid

2 industry professionals to inform the group that the
proper term is "lamp"

15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and
that "light bulb" is perfectly correct

19 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to
please take this discussion to a lightbulb forum

11 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all
use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to
this forum

36 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is
superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of
light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands
are faulty

7 to post URL's where one can see examples of different
light bulbs

4 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then
post the corrected URL's

3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are
relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to
this group

13 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety
including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too"

5 to post to the group that they will no longer post
because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy

4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time
ago?"

13 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting
questions about light bulbs"

1 forum lurker to respond to the original post 6 months
from now and start it all over again.

oh yeah...and me, to wonder how many useless OT posts are on this board...

I'll be the first................................what about those Yankees?

H-townbenzoboy 10-13-2004 12:41 PM

yeah, you're talkin' about the Yankees, "GO ASTROS!!"

I'm predicting a stros-NY WS. Having the best record in baseball will curse St. Louis, and Boston will choke. Pure Shadenfreude for me as an O's fan.

BoostnBenz 10-13-2004 01:34 PM

Well just don't touch the glass on the light bulb otherwise it will cut the life in half or less. :) :p

iwrock 03-18-2008 04:46 PM

Bumped.

Mistress 03-18-2008 04:49 PM

I hope Carleton comes back soon.

Dee8go 03-18-2008 04:50 PM

Boy, we'll have to name today "Resurrection Day." All the old threads are being resurrected. Well, it IS Easter week.

pawoSD 03-19-2008 01:52 AM

Isn't the touching of the glass only a real issue when handling halogen lamps due to the high surface temperatures they encounter? Even so, I will likely be wearing latex gloves when doing it...out of paranoia. :D

Yeah! Started a *lamp* installation discussion! :D :D

G-Benz 03-19-2008 08:05 AM

I know in my house, I can set off the lamp indicator if I use the wrong type of bulbs. I live in a German Haus, so I have to use Bosch, not GE.

And don't forget to check the rear porch lamp...most people assume that the front carriage lamps are the culprit when the lamp indicator goes off!

You guys are crazy, LEDs FTW!!!!

Additions:

One forum member (likely me) to take the lightbulb topic and relate it to something totally off the wall.

Two forum members to say, "Gee, I wonder why nobody ever thought of that before?"

Four to chime in with "I suggested that connection way back in the early days of the Internet, when this was just a mailing list!"
.

those suck.. they replaced all of the lights in the big walk in coolers and frozen section with LED's. Now when I fill milk I feel like I am in an aquarium. How many years until they yellow?

CFL's FTW!

LUVMBDiesels 03-19-2008 11:19 AM

BioDiesel filled lanterns. That is the answer!

I think acetylene lamps are the light of the future!

iwrock 03-19-2008 11:22 AM

Don, have you flushed your blinker fluid lately?

OldPokey 03-19-2008 11:22 AM

Is it faster to Boston, or by boat?

Dee8go 03-19-2008 11:32 AM

What is the best wattage to use? How often do you change YOUR light bulbs? Do you use dino bulbs or synthetics?:D

TMAllison 03-19-2008 01:05 PM

I feel I need light bulb additives to increase the longevity of my light bulb sockets.

Is one type of gas fill better than another?

Mine is a veggie household.

Larry Delor 03-19-2008 10:30 PM

I got tired of having to spend good money on mediocre lamps, so I decided to rebuild my own. I make my own thread out of left over cotton in the cotton fields, and then make my own carbon mixture to coat the threads with, from the soot out of my 300D exhaust pipe. The vacuum, is supplied by my TV, simply by tuning to reruns of the Tony Danza show in standard definition.

The key to good lighting is the proper wiring of the flux-capacitor...make sure that the middle plate, or base, lead wire is wrapped CCW around the outer surface of the glass...that way, when the "charge" passes from the negative terminal, through the dielectric, towards the positive terminal, the excess electrons will gather on the base wire (which is wound around the the glass envelope CCW), which, in turn, will cause the gas in the envelope to ionize and then conduct the charge that has been building up on the positive terminal lead to follow the ionized gas through the glass envelope, towards the negatively charged side of the tube, producing light as the electrons pass...

TAH! DAH!

Light!

Then, wash your hands and start all over again!

:tt2:

Don't forget that if you are south of the Equator, you must wind CW.

Dee8go 03-21-2008 09:18 AM

I don't like all the electronics on the new light bulbs. I'm using candles and oil lamps. They're so much easier to troubleshoot.

Botnst 03-21-2008 09:54 AM

I invented the light lamp.

Respectfully and with humility,

Al

Dee8go 03-21-2008 11:27 AM

Thank god for you, Al. Now, how 'bout fixing this global warming thing?

123c 03-21-2008 12:00 PM

I just use a candle for my headlights

I read, somewhere (I don't remember if it was here, on "OD" or in the "Vintage Mercedes" Forum), that if you rub two sticks together, really, really fast, that will also give you light...

Has anyone tried that yet? And, what oil weight oil should be used on the sticks?

NOW, the real tough questions...

Did the lightbulb really want to change?

Or was it "born" that way?

:tt2:

Hatterasguy 03-22-2008 10:16 AM

I don't need lights, I have night vision!:D:P

I'm SROTFLMAO!!! I just love my business...more truer (word?) quotes have been said about television and its wasteland of pablum than anything I know of...

Keep up the good fight Larry!!
