It pays to talk to your cellular provider!

I called ATT today to pay my bill.

Without boring you all with the details, they offered me a plan I couldn't refuse.

I more than doubled my daytime minutes, changed unlimited night and weekend from 8 pm to 7 pm, and added free cell-to-cell (ATT/Cingular customers).

All this for the same monthly amount and a new service contract for one year.

Pretty cool, huh?

So call your provider today and see what free stuff they'll offer you! There are so many providers out there now, they're all doing anything they can to keep good customers.

Congrats! This is so true The AT&T merger is gonna be awesome for us. I say that because I am a dealer for "The new Cingular" in Asheville, NC and Aiken, SC. The rates are better and we are merging 47,000 towers and now have 46,000,000 subscribers. Thanks for your patronage.

later, Joe

'Course tonight I checked online to see the details of the plan. What the guy didn't tell me earlier was that my unlimited nights and weekends would expire next Feburary, even though I signed up for a new year today. That meant that in Feb. '05, I'd have only 450 minutes-- per month!!

I was pretty mad and called ATT/Cingular to complain. I was polite and the operator fixed everything to the way it was explained to me earlier today. [At least he says so, the system's down, so the correction won't be posted until tomorrow.]

Just make sure you check the new plan afterwards like I did!!

I think it sucks that they merged. I have been dissatisfied with America's Thugs & Thieves's customer disservice since they took over for SunCom. I was planning to switch to Cingular.

This is what you have to watch out for with AT&T. They extended my contract for a year without telling me and hit me with $175 eary termination fee when I ported out. They claim there was a "verbal agreement" that I of course never knew about. 4 months later I'm still fighting them over it.

I do remember the guy saying there'd be a $175 cancellation fee, but he never did say that my free nights and weekends would go away. Glad I got them back! Can you imagine having only 450 minutes total per month if your cell phone were your only phone?!!

Glad to hear this worked out for you. I don't mind calling them, I just don't like it when they are calling the heck out of me!, lol.

I'm one of those people that permanantly switched over to cell-only. I've moved several times over the last three years until I bought a place this year, but still find no need to have a land-line phone anymore.

So my cell phone is used for everything-- both personal and work use. And I don't get any annoying marketing calls!

Yeah SunCom has what they call an "Evergreen Clause" whatever the hell that means. I know if your contract ends and they do not hear from you.....Congratulations you get another year agreement without your consent. Fun, Fun

Even though I have sold for Bellsouth mobility, Sprint pcs and Cingular for the past 9 yrs, Verizon is probably the strongest provider out there. That is why Cing paid $40+ billion for AT&T...... To try and stay ahead of Verizon

I was wondering something about the plans though:

It seemed to me that each operator I talked to in correcting the plan I wanted didn't know what the other operator had set up. In other words, it seemed like they had a lot of lattitude in giving me different options and promotions-- I basically dictated to them what I had wanted and they made it happen.

Is it true that they really don't have to stick to the corporate dictated plans and can set up special options for people?

Just wondering.

Retention department for Cing will make up plans to keep a customer. They all do that these days.

Managers in retail stores can add bundles of minutes to "create" a plan to satisfy a customer. It all depends on how good of a customer you are and how long you have been with them.

Hell if anybody is just a good customer and does not get an attitude with me, I will bend over backwards to help them out.

That's pretty much in impression I got. I've been with my carrier for about three years and have always paid my bill, etc. Plus I'm always friendly with the operators. At minimum, I figure they've gotta speak to so many *********s all day, I may as well make some kind of effort to talk to them like a real person. I used to work in customer service (bank teller) and know what it means to get a customer that will actually talk to you nicely as a person rather than just the "guy here that's supposed to serve me". It'll make your day!
