New Cell Phone Time
So it is officially time to purchase a new cell phone. Not thrilled about my current provider, but not necessarily enough to change. I know there are all sorts of good deals going on right now, and I'm curious as to the forum's experiences. Any particular references on models or service providers. I'm in a very densly populated metro, so analog service is not really of much importance. I have a friend with the LG VX6000 which looks kinda cool. She gets good reception with it and I'm kind of leaning towards that model, but am very open to any suggestions. Thanks.

Don't get a Nokia 3585i. It's what I have now, waiting a few more months and I should be able to renew my contract and get something else. It's an absolute power hog, always recharging it, either in the car, bus, or at home. LOOKS cool, lights on the side, etc (it's NOT EVEN the color screen model!).
In the buses we have another Nokia model, a little more basic, I'm leaning towards whatever that model is. My previous Nokia I really liked, very dependable. Don't go for alot of lights and flash unless you LIKE having to recharge every time you turn around. I dislike flip-phones, too clutzy to use, although my wife wants hers to be a flip-phone next so it's easier to carry (she doesn't use her phone much, but we share minutes). Gilly

I have the Mercedes StarTac and phone PSE, Cradle etc. if you're interested
I just got a Sony T637, its a GSM phone with Bluetooth. More bells and whistles than I need. But I like the phone and with my upcoming upgrade to UHI kit from Europe, I'll be set! Anyone want to retrofit a MY2000 W208 system into their car???

I've been very pleased with both my Motorala Startac and now my v-60.
I dropped the Startac on the street and it was run over by a car. It still worked, only it no longer would ring. I then bought a v-60 and have since dropped it on cement studio floors countless times. I once dropped it outside where it sat under a stream of heavy rain for half an hour. It still works fine, but the display sometimes doesn't activate when flipped open. Neither phone is available anymore, but what I'm saying is that the Motorolas are pretty indestructible. Good luck!

VX6000 is probably verizon or CDMA service.
The Razr is a sweet phone. it is GSM. Has speakerphone built in, bluetooth, killer color screen, zoom camera etc. The store I work at (for the oment has been selling them for over a month) They pull in a pretty penny, anywhere from $850.00 and up with no activation. If you want verizon/ cdma service, the lg vx6000 is a decent phone. I personally like the samsung models, the higher up ones that verizon has and the new motorola v710. If you want tried and true, not all the bells and whistles, the motorola v60s is a good phone. If going GSM, I like the motorola products like the razr, even the e398. If you want a pds phone there are several to choose from in gsm. The motorola A768. its ok not great but not horrible. The new hp ipaq, cool but it is unstable and needs to be rebooted alot. and the Sony Ericsson P910, stable, works great, but the keyboard on the back of the flip is a joke. you can type on it, but it isn;t much faster if any than using the on screen keyboard. There is the new blackberry too, its ok, but not as easy to type on as the older unit. If you go t-mobile you can gett he sidekick, cool phone, can do IM, browse the web and all with it, but its bulky. There are so manyt o choose from, first you need to know that t-mobile, cingular, and at&T are gsm. Sprint is pcs (I think it is also cdma) and verizon is CDMA 1x I believe. Hands down in Los Anegeles, verizon has the best reception. but you pay more for your minutes. T-mobile is the best value lotsa minutes for less money, but reception is ok. Cingular/at&T is on par with t-mobile maybe a little better or worse depending on your area. Sprint is ok too, not great not bad, but not as good as verizon. If I were to put them in a rating for los angeles area, I would say 1. Verizon 2-3. Cingular/AT&T 2-3. T-mobile - close behind cingular/AT&T for reception maybe even better. 3- 4 Sprint - Can;t say spring is horrible or great, I have never used it , but from what I have heard not too many people are happy witht he reception and or service, but many stay because they are on some crazy cheap plan with lotsa time. Do all the research you can ont he phones. www.phonescoop.com Make sure the phone you choose will work with your provider. Alon

I've been using the LG4400 for a feew years now I've "upgraded" to the Kyrocera 7135 and the LG4600 and always went back to my 4400.
Using 6000+ minutes a month you figure out quickly if a phone is worth a chit or not. |
