Would you folks mind participating in my survey?
My statistics class requires that each pair of students take a survey on some subject they've chosen then present their results to the class. I figured posting on the board might be a good way to get some responses from a diverse, nationwide population.
My partner and I are collecting data on the amount of people who have a bachelors degree but no degree higher than that. We're also interested in seeing if there is a significant amount of people with degrees that work in a different field from that of their degree. If you wouldn't mind posting your age, what your degree is in, and what you do for a living, it would really help us out, thanks! |

My bet is that most people with degrees work in a different field.

Thats my bet also, in fact we're basing our test on the assumption that 75% work in a different field, but I need to take a sample to find out .

I'm 39 and have a bachelor's degree in speech communication.
I work as a freelance television director and/or technical director. Yes, I do what I studied in school. If you're wondering, I'm also very happy with my field of choice. PS I'm not sure how good a representative sample of the population we are, though, having too many commonalites through our cars. Just a thought. Good luck with the project!!

Hello,
41, degree in English, minor in Educational Physcology(did I get that right?) Did some teaching, then decided to do *other things*--------have my own little company that manufactures and wholesales hand made Kashmiri rugs in US. Right now, am working on a project to launch a pharmarceutical factory on Vietnam which will hopefully be viable by mid 2005. Does that help?

So it seems, after putting all the data together, the actual proportions are 56% work in thier degree, 44% do not. I really thought more would be working outside of their degree, but had i wanted to do this test properly, I would have needed a sample size over 1200 people, which might have changed the outcome. For a 30 point project whose purpose was just to go through the motions, I think this'll be fine. Thanks for the help!
