Typical Republican: enraged hypocrite fights terrorism

Manchester man fined in Londonderry road-rage incident
By DAVID LAZAR
Union Leader Correspondent

LONDONDERRY — A Manchester man will pay a $240 fine after he was found guilty of attacking a teen he said was tailgating his pickup last August.

Eighteen-year-old Mark Lacasse of Londonderry said the truck he was following Aug. 4 on Bancroft Road stopped abruptly and the driver, Ian MacDonald, stormed out and headed for his car.

"He pushed his hand through my window, pushed my head, and then took my hat and threw it in the woods," Lacasse testified yesterday in Derry District Court. "He said to me, 'George Bush tells us to fight the war on terror, and riding people's (tails) is part of that war, and I'm going to fight it.'"

MacDonald, 46, said he didn't say those exact words or shove Lacasse. The Manchester contractor, who represented himself at trial yesterday, said his act was one of self-defense.

MacDonald said he believed he was in danger as he headed down Bancroft and saw Lacasse's small Saturn coupe speeding up on his tail. When MacDonald made an obscene gesture in his rearview mirror in response and the teen waved back sarcastically, he said that set off a spark.

"I was afraid he'd continue tailgating me," MacDonald testified. "I was afraid for my safety and the safety of anyone beyond that curve in the road. . . . I hope I have a right to be angry when someone endangers me. I hope I have the right to drive home from work or anywhere else without being endangered. Perhaps I am a little sensitive about aggressive drivers, because I'm not one."

Police, however, said MacDonald was the aggressor.

According to the teen and his girlfriend — who was in her own car driving behind Lacasse's car— MacDonald got out of his truck twice. The first time was to reach into Lacasse's car and throw his ballcap into the woods; the second time was to remark on the war on terror. Lacasse said he apologized several times to try to defuse the situation.

"I wanted to get a look at the face of the person following me, but he was afraid to face me," MacDonald said. "The fact is, I may have removed his ballcap, but I never touched him, there was no force involved, and I had no inclination to harm him once he said he was sorry."

Judge Lawrence Warhall took less than 10 seconds to convict MacDonald of misdemeanor assault, handing down the fine, plus a suspended 10-day jail sentence. That sentence will become active if MacDonald is arrested over the next year.

I knew it! The road-rage epidemic is Dubya's fault too! He should have just left the Tailgating Taliban alone!

I'll see you two state-run nirsing homes run by Pol Pot, and raise you your grandmother begging with a wooden bowl at the I-10 off ramp.

The term "Mormon" originally comes from a devout capitalist organization. The group was originally called "More Money", which was then abbreviated to "More Mon", subsequently "Mormon". No one stole your religion. The Mormons sold it.

I know -- "go straight to Hell -- do not pass Go, do not collect $200".

Actually, I was making fun of the overall bonehead philosophy.
