Blanket hatred/condemnation.... good thing or bad thing?

TRY.

I've seen enough Al Jezeera propaganda dating way back.....

I was directly involved in the first gulf war.......................

I spend a lot of time overseas....I see foriegn programming.....

Al Jezeera make NPR. CBS and Dan Rather look positively fair and balanced.

When is the next meeting of curmudgeons local 435? Maybe we're both overdue for a visit...

I have a confession: When I want to learn something, I don't watch a film. I read. I have never seen a film about anything that I didn't feel was manipulative of emotions and for me, that clouds my judgement. This includes newscasts, too. If I want to learn something, I read. Call me old fashioned. Or as you more accurately describe: Curmudgeon!

Its sort of like public prayer in that regard. I could never give myself up to somebody else's prayer. My mind would be listening and rebutting the speaker's every phrase--negating any beneficence bestowed by proper prayer and supplications.

Same with speechifying.

I just don't much care for that medium for factual information. But I love it for entertainment. Since I already am filled with disbelief when I see a film, I have no problem with dumb movies. They seem entirely reasonable, given the medium. Except I cannot stand a movie that defies the rules of its own world. The sound of a rocket exploding in orbit, for instance. My suspension of analytic criticism just cannot sustain itself in the face of such as that.

Haha. It sounds like you've just watched too many entertainment films. The documentary is an excellent news medium.

Link Tv

LINK TV (Channel 375 on DirecTV) has a program called "Mosaic: World news from Middle Eastern broadcasters" if you want to get a flavor on different countries' nightly news (in English).

Is it "fair and balanced"? Are any of them?

I agree. The human aspect is important to see.

Our media should be held more accountable for it's "reporting". Or lack of...

Al Jazeera is more credible than CBS? Wow.

I don't understand how people can think they are fully informed by only paying attention to one perspective. As long as the facts are reported, different perspectives can be a valuable tool towards understanding an issue. There will never be unbiased reporting; the relevance is understanding the perspective from which the facts are reported.

I don't see anyone disputing facts that Al-Jazeera reports, maybe that alone puts them ahead of CBS.

Another touching moment of American respect for freedom of the press. We truly fight for the Bill of Rights.

Exposure to new ideas means they have to examine their old ones. This is a frightening experience for them. Blanket hatred/condemnation works a whole lot better for them, because they don't actually have to confront anything logically.

Myself, I find al Jazerra nothing more than Fox News for Arabs. Today I got a big laugh watching Faux News reporting the intentional insertion of a provision in the budget that would allow far right wing politicians access to tax returns as a "mistake". Watch it yourself if you don't believe me. How is an intentional act a "mistake"? The real truth is they are mis-reporting the news so the fascists they support don't look like the bad guys. Utter propaganda. How can you guys condemn al Jazeera when Fox does the same exact thing?

Al Jezeera creats fiction using clips of video filmed but using them completely out of context and flat our lying about when and how the events occured.

That goes beyond bias and into the realm of fantasy.

And the U.S. government will not even allow photos of caskets of dead U.S. forces to be taken.

That is respect for fallen soldiers........

You didn't see reporters taking pictures of your relatives in their coffin did you. Why do our soldiers comand less respect.

So we respect them by hiding them? Its not the only thing that's hidden - Bush has never attended one funeral for a fallen soldier. He prefers to hide his face.

This is just more propaganda manipulation, pure and simple. The elimination of pictures of our dead and wounded from the national media has been almost total, while the Pentagon then claims we are fighting a Nintendo War where no civilains get hurt as well, and then you guys ***** about al Jazeera? We have become the most heavily propagandized people on earth.

Hey, Faux Newz just reports. They reported the Republican Senate Finance Chairman saying it was a mistake. You decide. Screw any rebuttal to that statement or how patently ridiculous it sounds. if a Repo said it, it must be a fact.
