Hummers are nice, but step up to the next level a CJ
ABC
![]() Hummers really are great but they also have major design flaws as urban military vehicles. They tend to be too wide and the wheelbase is too long for tight quarters driving and turning in most of the worlds streets. Thus the long lived nature of the old military Jeep, the G-Wagon, Land Rovers etc., all of these share common 80, 90, and 110 in. wheel bases and short overhangs for good approach and departure angles, hard to beet that combo with a heavier longer vehicle in the rough. I wish the army would bring back the Jeep in limited quanities for the urban warfare stuff.

This summer, we went to the rubicon in search of the Fordyce Trail. It was Me, Kyle, John, Matt, and Chris. I had the ML. I went down the side of the rubicon, avoiding everything that was taller than 6 inches. I had a good time, but was worried about breaking the ML. I did scratch the paint quite well on the drivers side, as I caught a branch on the way back down the trail. Kyle was in his 73 Dodge Powerwagon. He was going over anything and everything he could find. But then again he is lifted, and has been wheeling for years. John was with him in the powerwagon. Matt was in his 1996 Jeep Cherokee. He has a 3 inch suspension lift, and a 2 inch body life so that he could get his 35's on. He was also running over everything in site. Well, a Hummer H1 came rolling along and though he would show these little cheapo 4 wheel trucks how its done..... Well, do to the Hummer Drivers lack of skills, he got highcentered on a nice rok. He proceeded to try and power his way out to no avail.

Read up on SUVs
Hey, c’mon, why don’t we strip away the politically correctness and admit that these Hummers on public roads are the stupidest things that ever made a fad. America is the only place on the planet that these pigs are popular. Sure 1 in 1000 have a use, but that’s all.
Most of the buyers are women and never go off road. Almost none of them are ever off road. Why does a 110 lb woman want a Military Personnel Carrier to go to the store to buy a quart of milk? Admit it, it’s really stupid. Some of these women say they feel safer but it makes hundreds feel unsafe with untrained drivers in personnel carriers. The only way it’s safer in a crash is if you smash another car and then you are most likely to hurt someone else, but the drivers seem to like this too so they can intimidate other drivers. They are afraid of being hurt but don’t care who they hurt. Their kids should be scared too because about 100 SUVs back over children every year, usually their own. Read this link to see how they came about. http://www.malcolmgladwell.com/2004/2004_01_12_a_suv.html Even the builders thought no one would be stupid enough to let the auto maker net an extra $10,000 per vehicle to buy a covered truck but never underestimate the stupidity and ego of the American Consumer. Read the link, it’s a great read. One quote:” Fred J. Schaafsma, a top engineer for General Motors, says, "Sport-utility owners tend to be more like 'I wonder how people view me,' and are more willing to trade off flexibility or functionality to get that. ”According to Bradsher, internal industry market research concluded that S.U.V.s tend to be bought by people who are insecure, vain, self-centered, and self-absorbed, who are frequently nervous about their marriages, and who lack confidence in their driving skills.”
