What's your favorite thing in your house?
I was going to say excluding spouses, children, pets and vehicles but go ahead.
I would say my favorite thing is my bed. |

Yup, gotta say my pets. There isn't anything else in my house that isn't replaceable with something newer, nicer, or better. Heck, I wouldn't even be living in a regular house if it wasn't for the pets.

Well wife and pets of course. But also, I just did a travertine tile kitchen countertop that came out pretty slick. Kind of proud of that at the moment, until the next project.

an oak dining room set that my Mom bought in 1978 and she gave me as a wedding present a couple of years before she passed. Looks brand new.
I always tell my wife if a killer hurricane would be bearing down on our area and I had a couple of days to evacuate, that would be the first thing I load up and take with me. It is irreplaceable. My porno collection would be next.

Actually, the favorite thing in and about my house (other than wife and pets) that couldn't be easily found in a replacement house around here is my garage. It is an oversized four car tandem (two cars front and two cars back), so it looks like an ordinary two car from the outside. But inside, it's an 1100 sq. ft. area with plenty of room for four big vehicles (should one want that) plus a work area and a storage area. Just have three vehicles, so the fourth space ends up being used for the junk one usually finds in garages --- but that's OK.
Thanks, Richard |

The back stairs which used to come down to the kitchen. I believe they were designed as 'servants stairs'. I know from the 1924(?)census that the family living here had a servant at the time. They foster a delusion of aristocracy.
I also like the hardwood floors I have installed and re-finished and the 1920's gas range I found on a ranch near the Nebraska border.

My six car garage (s). That is my favorite thing. Was out there for hours last night tinkering with two of my old restored cadillacs. Ironically I spend most of my free time out there, but the real investments, are in the house. Go figure.
PS Have a killer dog too.
