Wow so thats what they looked like when they were new! CA car one owner lower mileage, and black on black. Hmm so tempting to bad I don't have the $$$ now.

95,000 miles! Forget it. With that many miles just drive it to the crusher and say goodbye. Regardless of the age, never buy an old car with more than 10k miles on it. I never do. The times I have I had to start restoration work everytime.

PS A car you love is one you do not drive.

if you buy an older car with very few miles on it, chances are that the seals in the internals will be all dried up from the lack of oil flowing on them. The place were i bought my car, were restoring the engine of a 1988 560sl with over 230k on it, and it still looked amazing

you know hattie, i was just gona post it...

Please notice they were rebuilding the damn car in his example. The age effects on a properly stored car vs. driving it everyday are very small. Think about it.

95k isn't a lot of miles it is less then average. 12 years x 10k a year. The timing chain is due soon other than that looks like a clean one. I'm thinking it goes for mid to low teens maybe $14k ish.

These are MB's 95k isn't much. Heck the suspension on my SDL is still tight at 243k.

To each their own. I collect cars, thus I want as close to new as I can find. My '89 GTA has 8k miles, '81 Seville has 11k miles, and my '96 Cobra has 3k miles. They are all perfectly working and sitting in a climate controlled garage under cover. The '60 cadillac I restored since it is so old it had to be, although it is garage kept since new and has no interior cracks.

Now you are intending to drive your car often it sounds like, so you might as well buy a mediocre car to start with. Maybe the 95k mile SEC is right for you after all. My perspective is a little unusual as you can see.

I have to wonder what the ideal climate setting is for a car in storage. Dry enough so the cylinder walls don't get lined with rust is probably too dry to keep leather and plastic looking new.

Is there a mechanical equivalent of atrophy?

It wouldn't be a show car, if I bought it she would be a daily driver for a few years. I would be pretty happy with this "mediocre" 560SEC. It would look real nice with the right set of wheels and an H&R lowering kit. I never said I was looking for a trailer queen. If I was I wouldn't buy an SEC, a 6.3 or 6.9 would be a better choice. Heck I would never buy a show car I'd rather spend the money on a boat.

Cars are made to be driven, not talked about.

Just like a nice bottle of wine should be enjoyed, not talked about.

Just my humble opinion.

Shane,
Sometimes you make sense, and sometimes you make no sense. Cars were designed and built to be driven. Period. If you want to collect pretty mechanical things then try watches. At one point in my life I had use of a Bentley SII Drophead that was worth roughly $500K. Didn't drive it like I stole it, I drove it with the respect it deserved but it was out there, on the road. Same with most of my cars, my SDL is a 90 point car that brings me pleasure, WHEN I DRIVE IT! There is something much more impressive about the patina of age, of a machine used for it's intended purpose then of a trailer queen locked up in some anal retentive nitwit's garage.
Just my 2 cents.

I could spend a few couple hours a day on this car for a week or two and drive for another 100K with little or no trouble. Watch what this car sells for and and look what you could buy for that price. Ask yourself if you would rather drive this 100K or the alternative. This car will probably be a bargain, good eye.

For a gasser you wish it had fewer miles, but condition is everything.

I'm gonna unzip and expose my colossal, turgid ignorance here: Why a two door? I've owned 2-door cars twice (1960's and 1970's) and they were a PITA for folks in the back seat, plus they spilled burning seeds on the carpet, but that's another issue.

I don't understand the attraction or utility of a 2-door. Help me out here, folks.

That 560 is pretty much my dream W126. I prefer the coupes because they look better and probably have a slightly stiffer suspension. If I bought that one with a few extra $$$ I would:

H&R lowering kit
Darker tints
Debage completly remove some chrome trim and go for the low evil all black look.
Some kind of tastefull exhuast. Borla or Kleemann maybe?
Nice set of wheels, AMG or Brabus maybe?
Maybe upgraded Brembos in front.
I know their is a company that puts manual trans and turbos on these.

That would make a very sweet low slung sleeper. Oh yeah and drive it everyday during the summer and try to rack up 10k a year on it. Whats the point if you are not slidding it sideways or racing Vettes?
