Why my children will never ride a school bus.

I don't know if she was sticking up for her own kid or what but DAMN. To be honest if a kid gave my kid a beating I'd likely fight fire with fire.

Police: School Bus Camera Catches Mom Beating Student

POSTED: 9:14 am EST December 15, 2004
LAKE COUNTY, Fla. --
Video

A Lake County mom was arrested after a camera on a school bus caught her beating a student who had gotten into a fight on a school bus, police said.

The camera shows three girls throwing punches at the back of the bus as a woman in a white shirt, Rita Gooden, walks back.

The camera shows Gooden push one girl out of the way, then strike another girl. The child appears to be pinned to a back seat out of view of the camera as the apparent beating continues.

Gooden is charged with simple battery, and she faces up to a year behind bars.

Combine this with the fact that lots of kids are left on buses in burning hot weather or freezing weather and you have a really messed up system. Kids should not be bussed.

Yeah, it would be much safer if we had a bunch of kids walking down the side of the road to school. Come on, there is a sizable percentage of parents that won't give their kids a freaking piece of toast in the morning, do you think they are going to take them to school?

I'm curious if that kid really was one of the Bullies who terrorise the younger kids......

If they were they deserved it.......Give them something to think about next time they want to wail on another kid smaller than them.

Sorry, I have a big thing about Bullies.......I kicked the crap out of a lot of them in high school.....all bigger than I was. And only one got the best of me.

Sigh... people ***** if we take the kids to school (tying up traffic! omigod you stupid soccer mom! coddling your kids, let them ride the damned bus!), they ***** if we don't (omigod! buses are unsafe, no seat belts, no A/C, and the bus drivers let them fight to the death, schoolbuses are like big rolling yellow deathmatch cages!).

They ***** if we work (you must not love your kids if you leave them in the cold clutches of daycare just so you can do something frivolous like pay the mortgage!) and they ***** if we don't (stay at home moms sit on their asses all day eating bonbons and getting fat, spending their husbands' hard-earned money/child support payments, parasites, expect to be taken care of their entire lives!).

Moms can't win for losing!

I did crack myself up with that rolling yellow deathmatch cage thing, though, so I'm ahead for the morning.

I’m not sure what you’re saying here. I can imagine how different my life would be, or how humiliated I’d have been if my father would have ever jumped into a fight I’d managed to get into though. Kids want to fit in.

I hear you on the bully issue, and if it were a daughter rather than a son, but more than a very stern yank seems a poor choice. Things are different though.
I’m reminded of a conversation I had one afternoon after I’d worked out. Was in LA – sitting in the steam room with a couple of black guys that were talking about a friend’s son that had been just killed in a drive by. I said something about how dangerous things seemed, but that the neighborhoods still looked just like they always did, and that I still went everyplace I always had. The one guys comment was so simple, but so true. Nothing has really changed – kids were just like always – except they all had guns.

My (future kids) will ride the bus, bicycle or walk to public school. That's what I did. Part of my job as parent would be to choose a home in a great school district (not that there are many here in Atlanta, BTW) in close proximity to the schools.

Best solution of all : DON'T HAVE ANY KIDS!

From a teacher and bus driver...

Was this parent the school bus driver? If so, she should loose her job. If not, then why did the driver allow her on the bus? Either way the driver should face some sort of action if he/she did nothing to stop the parent. In KY it is against KSR law to allow anyone not employed by the district on the bus.
I am a teacher (middle school behavior disorder children) and a school bus driver as well. I can tell you that every bus driver I have come into contact with is very well trained and very professional, but keep in mind this is the state that had the Carrollton school bus accident in which 27 children and adults burned alive when their bus was hit by a drunk driver. I have yet to come into contact with a driver that was not well prepared to do his/her job. We certainly don't become wealthy - and most of us do it for the benefits.
As far as buses being death traps - they are far safer than automobiles (except MB, of course) even if they don't have seatbelts. Statistics have show that children are more likely to be hurt or killed riding to school in the family car than on the school bus - I won't even touch on the "walking to school" thing.
Besides, your tax dollars pay for this service whether you use it or not.

True....basicly most of these kids are allowed to run wild by the parrents....and not disciplined. Every one I ever knew that was true about. I had martial arts training at a young age.....and a lot of discipline... that gave me the edge when I took on the bullies...they were usually bigger and stronger, but typicly lacked any real discipline....

THey always started it......I am a peacefull person at heart...but I never ran from anyone. I would taunt them into a blind rage and then while calm and cool beat the hell out of them because I could retain my focus during the fight.

I have zero sympathy for Bullies.....they do deserve being suspended and expelled...........Parents may not care but when they are forced to take kids elsewhere to school they will see it is their problem after all.

And you can be permanently expelled from a public school, before you are 16.....One particular bully that had a wild hair up his butt for me picked a fight once too often in class and ended up permenantly expelled from public school, at 13. I never got detention much less suspension of expulsion as I NEVER initiated a fight.

That 13 year old attempted an armed robbery of a gas station 5 years later in July of 1979, the attendant shot him dead......Laughed my butt off when I heard it on the news.

One less bully in the world........
