Trade the C on a G35 Coupe 6MT?
So lately the C has been acting up a bit. Little things here and there that are starting to add up. I've averaged almost $400/ month in repairs/upgrades on the C this year-way more than last year (I do have 60K on it now). This is with me doing all the work and buying parts at 10% over cost. At this point I like not having a car payment, but am sick of dumping money into a seven year old car. For what I'm spending now on fixing it I can pick up a very slightly used (6Kmiles) '04 G35 Coupe we just took in on trade. The car passed inspection with flying colors and is a blast to drive. The six-speed is a bit notchy, but other than that a very gratifying experience. It would be my daily as I plan on getting another sports car to replace the CLK in spring. Anyone have experience with these cars? I've been browsing the G35 forums and there isn't a lot of problems that people are complaining about. Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks all.

G35 is a really good car that has been hit with an ugly stick. By no means is it a classic design. It will age terribly.

I tend to trade cars in every 2 year or so, so the aging factor is not as much of a concern. I need reliable transportation that will be able to provide a few grins during my commute. At the price I'm getting it for it's really quite the hook up. I am also kind of fond of its styling. Vaguely remeniscent of my deerly departed RX-7tt.

Unequivocal YES.

Well I'm taking it home for the weekend. I'll probably pull the trigger on Monday if all goes well. Fun car. Had a little more time with it this afternoon. That car really has some legs for a six cylinder.

Take it. I think it looks great and the Nissan v6 is a fantastic engine.

I drove an auto G35 coupe a couple times. Very nice.
In terms of how it looks, you'll be on the inside anyway when you're driving. I'm not sure where you are in the midwest and you almost certainly know this, but the G35 definitely needs winter tires. With a little snow, the stock summer performance tires will slide quite a bit. Is the trunk space OK for you? Please let us know what happens. |

The VQ35 engine is a scream. Very responsive and powerful for a V-6, and matches the car well - it just feels like you have all the power in reserve you could want. As for styling, I personally like the fact that Nissan deviates away from what everyone else is doing. It gives that car some measure of distinction. I'm not at all prepared to say that its looks will age badly. Plus, as has been mentioned, when you're out there doing your 12 second quarters, who's really gonna care?

So after a weekend of really giving this car what for, I am sold. The chassis feels almost Porsche-like in it's execution. The engine has power to spare at all points in the incredibly smooth, linear powerband. The turn in feel is a thing of beauty and the way the car sits down and transfers it weight midway through a hard fought descending radius turn is enough to provide ample smiles during my otherwise boring commute. The front-mid engine design is something that needs to be experienced. I can't believe how much car Nissan seems to be giving away at this price. I have yet to drive anything else this inexpensive that so seemlessly blends power, handling, style (polarizing, yes, but subjectly viewed as rather graceful), and a bevy of options that would have given the CLK a run for it's money. All while giving a smooth ride that even the girlfriend was not offended by. I should have some pics within the next couple of days to share. Anyone looking for a great way to spend an afternoon should go down and stroke your local Infinity salesman into a test drive.
I don't really want to get mod-happy on this one until the warranty has expired, but a set of bigger sway bars would really make this car a perfect daily. Who knows, after the first 60K, if she's still around, GReddy has a bi-turbo kit that makes it a seriously scary car. Thanks for all the input. It looks like I'm going to have to change my signature. |

Blizzak LM-22's (only becasue there's no Hakkes in her size). No problems. She's here for daily service. We'll buy another pure sports car in the spring. The Japanese cars i have no problems racking up miles on. The Germans are, by default, going to spend a bit more time in the garage.
