Spiral Staircase...
Ok, so my dad comes up with this idea to remove a staircase and put spiral stairs in place. I like (actually) love them) but I have two questions.
a) how the hell do people get furniture up and down these stairs?? b) how does a medium size (45 lb) dog do going up and down these stairs? I know (b) is a little stupid... it depends on the dog, but I don't know the first things about living with these stairs. Thanks for any input from people that have them, or know about them. Pete |

a) ...in small pieces.
b) OK, but he gets dizzy. Try to describe a spiral staircase without using your hands. |

spiral staircases are great on their looks but suck on the functionality...
as the dog get's older it is going to be very hard for him/her to go up and down those stairs... |

Had some friends many years ago with a spiral staircase up to the balcony above the living room. It sucked! I'd never want them in a house of mine.
They put a baby grand piano up there and had to bring some kind of lift in to do it. No freakin' way to take a piano up spiral staircases

I think I remember that under some building codes a spiral staircase is only allowed as a second staircase. It would be a good idea to check the codes. Insurance may also be affected.
