Recommendation for a Paper Shredder
I want to be able to shred credit card applications, including the card that they may come with without screwing with it. I get too many of them. I think my university puts students on a stupid mailing list.
I dont care if it shreds paperclips. If it shredded stapes, that would be cool. I think that Id be willing to pay about 100 dollars, and maybe more if its a great value.

Crosscut is the only way to go, and I believe they are below $100 for a decent one. Shop around.

I think I got our last one really cheap ($30-40) on sale and with a coupon at one of the big box office supply stores. Staples will match online prices last I checked. |

the ones that handle up to 4 or 5 sheets will not be up to shreading plastic cards....personal experience with mine.
get the beefiest one you can get for the money....crosscut preffered. I see decent ones on sale for just under $100

Our Aurora AS1200X will handle a penny with no problem. Got it at Staples a couple of years ago, but can't remember what we paid then. But I have seen good ones for less than $100. One thing,,, if you plan on giving it hard use, try to make sure it has metal gears, versus plastic ones. Ours has metal but it still started to come apart after a year or so. I tore it apart and put some screws back in place and it's been working fine.

Search for hot deals. This is the type of thing that you can save a chunk of change on if you are patient.

There are a lot of shredders on the market which will only operate for a few minutes before shutting down to prevent overheating. Look for one that will operate for longer periods of time. Its somewhere hidden on the box.
I got an Xerox XRX-8X for about $70 which is at least my tenth shredder and the best one. Its a cross-cut machine which can handle credit cards, large staples, paperclips, etc. It says it can take 8 sheets at a time, but I don't do more than 5. I hated the old ones that would shut off mid way through a huge pile of junk mail.

Also get ahold of Equifax(or any of those credit companies) and have your credit report put a block on credit card companies(and anyone else) from viewing your report. We now get MAYBE one card application a week, versus the 2 or 3 a day we used to get, and it continues to taper off.
If anyone ever steals your mail before you get it.......
