Oh, it's such a crucial and important story, one with ramifications for all of us -- surely you've heard of the scandal, perhaps even partaken in some serious debate about the issue at the office, pondered the historical ramifications of it -- Prince Harry's Nazi costume.

I blame TiVo... I came home from work, turned on the TV, and there it was! OMG Nazis!

I know everyone shakes their heads over this stuff... the overexposure of the Scott Peterson case, the attention paid to Survivor, the fact Jerry Springer is on the air. The ubiquitous head-shaking begs the question -- who watches this stuff? Becaise someone is, or it wouldn't be on the air.

I have the same reaction to Bush's speeches.

He stands to inherit about a billion bucks, and as a prince he gets his pick of the finest women in the world. If only I was such an idiot. The one I don;t get is his old man. His woman chases cars and bones.

The obvious solution is to kill your TV...I did. I last pirated cable during the 2000 election when 'my' candidate was running. Killed it not long thereafter, and have never been happier.

With the merging of news and entertainment, this is what we get. Why, of the many thousands of murders in the U.S., did television feel the need to cover the Scott Peterson story in such detail? Or O.J. Simpson?

I read a great little book on this subject some years back, AMUSING OURSELVES TO DEATH, by, I think, Jonathan Kozoll. He saw all this crap coming.

Our electronic media cannot be trusted to be journalists, in the old-fashioned sense of the word. News divisions used to be sort of independent entities in the networks; now, like everything else on television, they are totally market driven . In the case of Fox, they are market driven with the added motivation--to parrot the Republican, neo-conservative line.
