Make your kid a millionaire?

Would you, if you had $500/month, invest it so that he's a millionaire by the time he's 30?

What else would you do with the money?

if i had the money to do that, yes, i would....itd be nice to know my kid wouldnt have to worry about money....but i would never let him know it was there, or that it was for him...thatd just make him a sorry ass....what would be great, is if i kept all that money back for the kid, and he ended up being a millionaire on his own...id rather raise him to make his own million, as opposed to giving it to him....character is worth far more than money, in any amount

When the kids, gathered around my death bed, ask me where all the money in the estate is . . . I'll just point to the W201 in the driveway.

While not trying to make my children 'rich', my wife and I do believe in funding for their educational futures. I do not believe that you can afford to wait to begin their funding until the children are 10-12 years old.

We actually do fund $500.00/month for each of our two children's college education. With this said, I also fund my retirement at the highest allowed amount (I don't want to be without retirement $ while my kids are at or finnished with college).

My wife and I do not make a ton of money (think the lowest of 6 figures combined), but we make sacrifices to fund these accounts (think frugal, not cheap ), i.e.: no cable tv, not many nights out (2x/year), wife cuts my hair, no problem buying used clothes, etc.. My $0.02.
