Kids and Ice Skates

Me and the kids have been doing a lot of ice skating lately, indoors and outdoors. They are two girls ages 4 and 6. I want to take the 6 year old off double runners and go to single blades and she is a size 12 1/2 (US). The question is should I buy a 12 or a 13 size skate and how sharp do I want the blades? Would a 'rounder' edge keep her slow and steady?

6 yr old should not be on cheesecutters (double bladed) go one size bigger than shoe size with heavier sock. that way the skate won't collapse and to avoid her skating on her ankles
skate blades should not be razor sharp..otherwise they will trip all over.

oh even the 4 year old could go to single blades!
in canada growing up and skating from 2 years old we never used the chesse cutters.

good luck!

I concur on the larger size and heavy socks. Also on the single blades. My daughter's been skating since about 4 or 5 and we never used the double blades.
