Howdy BusyBenz
Several people from work have been to Area 51. If I told you about it I would have to shoot you LOL.

I (and my entire family) actually saw lightning balls once as a child. Really flipped me out.....

Three years ago on Spring Break, a group of us were camped at the mouth of Jasper Canyon in Stillwater Canyon on the Green River in Utah. It is one of the most remote places in the lower 48. Just as the sun was coming up, my wife and I awoke in our tent and heard a noise coming down the side canyon. The sound was clearly that of wind rushing over the wings of a flying craft (bird??) of some kind. The sound intensified as it came towards us, passed over the tent and went down the main river canyon. There was no sound of a piston engine at all, just the rushing of wind. It happened over a period of about 10-15 seconds and by the time I realized the event was very strange, it was too late to unzip the tent and get a look.
When everyone else in the group got up and we were eating breakfast, I asked if anyone had experienced anything odd that morning. Everyone (4 other adults) described the same thing, but admitted the event was so bizarre that they had not planned to say anything to anyone else about it. To this day, none of us has any reasonable explanation as to what happened. An Air Force drone out on a test flight? A giant bird?
Whatever it was, it was clearly an unidentified flying object.

FYI Peter Jennings is doing a special on UFO this Thursday night. I will be watching.

Wait a minute! You're Flash Gordon! Is that you have to say on the subject? :D

I was not planning to reveal it.....on second thought, what the heck, my cousin Darion, from planet Uracus, is featured on the Peter Jennings special :)

Could it have been a glider?

My sister-in-law described seeing an F-16 near Lafayette, IN (probably from the F-16 Guard unit at Terre Haute) drop its flares over the edge of the city. Very rarely do you get to see that in an urban area! I'll bet several people wondered what those were. Chaffe can also cause lots of confusion as it's glittery as it falls. Neat stuff!

Yes, I thought some kind of glider. But, there was no place for it to go. I don't think a glider that low could have gotten out of the canyon. The walls are thousands of feet high there. I've never been under a glider when it passes low overhead. Does it create a sound of onrushing wind coming closer and then diminishing as it moves away?

Yes, it makes that noise... esp. if there are rocky walls to bouce the sound around. I got to take a ride in a glider Les Alpilles (south France) last fall... what a rush! While I was waiting, I watched and listened to the gliders that had gone up already. Even at high altitudes, you could hear that rushing-wind sound. Pretty neat! They would find warm spots and ride the updrafts, and thus could stay up pretty much indefinitely in the right conditions.

Well, I couldnt identify it, and it flew...

Well, I saw something going at such a speed that known man-made propulsion technology couldnt have been in it, blinking like it had aircraft lights. It crossed from horizon to horizon in about 20 seconds.

I was thinking of calling the local FAA office or the airport, but had the fear of getting a visit from some ill-tempered suits, or at the very least, the "no we didnt see anything, and neither did you! Do you understand?"
