liberty diesel

Anyone buy or test drive the new Liberty diesel? What did you think? We drove a liberty sport and I thought that the seats where hard, but my wife thought that they where fine. It had plenty of power. The one we drove had a dead battery, and the tack and speedo didn't work.

My take is that they went about this all wrong. I dunno if it's gearing or what, but the mileage SUCKS. What is the benefit of diesel in this vehicle? Why not buy the gas-engine model if the mileage of the diesel is not noticeably higher? Maybe the diesel engine will last longer, but that is not a factor to most American car buyers (sadly). My inital thought is that I think Jeep missed a golden opportunity to re-introduce diesels to the American public. It'll probably go over as well ast the Chevy diesels did. I hope I am proven wrong!

A couple people bought them on thedieselstop.com
look there for a few good testimonials in the general diesel forum.
They are not getting the milage they expected but that may change when they are broke in.

Thanks, Paul. It's ok if it is "cute" looking because it will be my wifes car. We are going to drive a Limited diesel. That has better seats, I hope. If I could ask one more question. With it's short wheelbase, is the liberty "squirrlly" in bad weather? Thanks again, Jay
