Very cool photo, etc.

Here is a shot of a heavy lift ship carrying 10 patrol boats, from Australia to Yemen. For a high res version of this photo and more detail on the story you can visit the following web site:

Just thought it was interesting enough to share.

That is a cool picture. I always heard that the difference between a ship and a boat was that you could put a boat on a ship and move it.

Austal, the Australian company that built those boats has a shipyard here in Mobile, AL. If you go west through the tunnel on I-10 you will see it, I think. They are known for building high-tech, high-speed ferries.

I always have liked fabrication and thought that to be a shipfitter would be very interesting work, maybe too much of a good thing.

I took a photo from the water in San Pedro of the towering shipping cranes that they ship over from China aboard cargo ships. I'll see if I can find it and post it. Extremely scary because of the high center of gravity!

Exclamation

Try this link for the Cole recovery.

http://www.pianoladynancy.com/recovery_usscole.htm

If it doesn't work search google for USS Cole and look for the recovery info.

This is a neat time lapse !!!!!

That massive 190m "ship saw" is a novel idea. I wouldn't want to be anywhere near it if the line breaks. It can be used later for enormous baloney sandwiches. Was this the ship that went down with the early shipments of the Volvo XC90's?

Yep, that's a huge waste of resources and again another ship related blow to the environment.

I've never been to Europe (although I hope to someday!) but it seems kinda peculiar how two ships collided in open water. I figure the draft was pretty deep with a shallow bottom and perhaps the shipping lane was too narrow?Hence the hit from the other ships after it sank....you't think they's put BIG buoys out to mark the wreckage site Perhaps they should install the Merc's radar guided cruise control....for a few grand extra that would have had a great ROI
