ATL to Orlando (in the 85 300TD) directions?

So... the online directions bots are sending me what looks to be a round-about way through jacksonville and down the atlantic coast, when it looks much more direct to just stay on I75. Any insider wisdom on this? Stay on 75 or go over to 95 and go on 4?
cheers,
Kevin

Take the I-75. Use the by-pass around Macon in GA.

Allow extra time for construction on I-4

Enjoy your time in Orlando!

Being from Orlando, I can say that taking I-75 south would be the easiest way to get there, however, instead of taking I-4, take the Florida Turnpike South from I-75. It starts somewhere near Ocala and you can exit onto various roads in Orlando. I make a weekly commute from Tampa to Orlando, and I-4 is just a big mess through Lakeland, and is a mess at the interchange in Tampa. Construction everywhere, and ignorant drivers. The turnpike is a more direct route with less hassle, though there are tolls.

Also, dont forget about the I-475 bypass around Macon!

Hope this helps.

Which bots are you using?

I tried MSN maps and directions (formely MapBlast), and the route from there takes you right down 75 (with the 475 bypass around Macon.)

I did yahoo maps, mapquest, and google maps (hidden beta version AWESOME! maps.google.com). Two of the three took me down 75 then over to 95 in jacksonville and then across I4 to orlando. I think mapquest took me there on 75 then over the river and through the woods as I got close to orlando.
I was mainly wondering if there were pros/cons either way. I'm making a quick weekend to pick up my sister in orlando and take her over to visit my old and ill great uncle in daytona. A couple years ago, I wouldn't have minded the fact that it's spring break there, but now I'm rather dreading it...

Going through Jacksonville or Tampa to get to I-4 is just plain sillly. As Itrain300D said, take I-75 to the Florida Turnpike. Be very careful with your speed while in the Sunshine State. The police are well aware that it is spring break and are patrolling the highways like you wouldn't believe on the weekends.

I've made that trip literally DOZENS of times, as recently as a week and a half ago, and have taken pretty much every possible route. The best route is to take I-75 South (taking the I-475 bypass around Macon is optional...doesn't make any difference, really), then take the FL turnpike into Orlando. There's a couple of tolls on the turnpike, but it's a well-maintained road, traffic usually isn't bad, and it's the fastest, most direct way to Orlando.

I'd also like to repeat the previous post's warning about speeding in FL....They'll nail you. They also LOOOOVE to search "suspicious-looking" cars for drugs. Watch your speedo.

You've already missed the fun stuff in Daytona....Bike Week is over.

Thanks all. I just discovered that there is a NASCAR race off 75 south of atlanta to contend with as well... 75 to the FL turnpike it is!

cheers,
K
