Spanning the World
Reading sports reports from around the world, especially truly non-American sports, is a good reminder what the rest of the world must think of the NFL and MLB reports. I tried to use the translation feature of BabbleFish, but it didn't seem to work.
Chanderpaul powers big score 01/04/2005 21:47 - (SA) Georgetown - New captain Shivnarine Chanderpaul hit a career-best unbeaten 177 and Wavell Hinds a memorable 213 as the West Indies piled on the misery for South Africa's bowlers on day two Friday of the first Test at Bourda. The home team, 347 for three overnight, took tea at 490-4. Hinds, 188 not out after the first day, completed his first double century in a morning session shortened to just one hour because of a soggy outfield. The left-handed opener fell soon after the interval as he edged Charl Langeveldt to wicketkeeper Mark Boucher. Hinds cracked 34 fours and two sixes off 297 deliveries in seven hours, 20 minutes at the crease. Hinds' stand with Chanderpaul was worth 284 for the fourth wicket, a record for any country at the venue. Chanderpaul, resuming on 102, continued to bat with assurance on his favourite home ground in spite of Hinds' dismissal. He breezed past his previous highest test score of 140 and was in sight of a maiden double ton at the break. The left-hander spanked 20 fours off 318 balls in seven and a quarter hours. He and Ryan Hinds forged another defiant partnership to dull the South African attack. Hinds contributed an unbeaten 36 as the pair added an even 100 in just over two hours. Nel took three for 78 to lead the visitors. Langeveldt claimed 1-58. |

Paul X. Or do they secretly mean this: The left-hander spanked off in seven and a quarter hours. Oh dear, please don't ban me.
