Return of the SWB 6-cylinder S-Class

http://www.mbusa.com/brand/models/S350V.jsp

just incase there was any demand at all for a short wheelbase 6-cylinder s-class again, mb is obliging with the introduction of the s350 sedan.

Nice, the new V6 is a pretty sweet engine. And the W220 is a nice proven car.

Now we just need an S400CDI!!

it's too bad the car did not get the new quad cam motor or the 7g. if that were the case, it may have been an interesting car to drive. no amg sport package either, another no no.

if those criteria were met, it would be a useful alternative. fuel efficient, quick, conservative yet attractive with the amg sport pack on an swb car. i could have gotten excited over this car if mb had done the model justice. however in its current form, i am not terribly impressed.

The new S Class will be out within a year. That model will get the new 4-valve engine and the 7 speed.

I noticed that the engine in the S350 is 3.7 liter, while the E350 is a a 3.5 liter. Druther have the E class for the difference in $$.

The new V6 is the quad cam 4 valve per cylinder motor. Kind of like the old M119 actually. MB has shared motors for years. You could get an M119 in the E400,E500, S420, S500, SL500 ect. Same with the M104/103. Same with the 617/603 ect ect.

With a better engine and trans the new S350 should be a better car then the old 300SEL was and the S320 was.

the engine in the s350 is the single cam 3 valve 3.7 found in the now old w163 ml.

i would assume its because they didnt want to bother with r&d'ing the new engine into the w220 chassis because its getting replaced this year. in europe, the s350 has been the base car for several years so the only cost associated with introducing it to the US market, would be the certification with the DOT.

I wonder if it will get the 7spd? It will probably be stuck with the 5spd.

It is a shame the new V6 sounds like a real sweet engine.

What's wrong with MB? They can't even properly badge their cars anymore. Anyone remember the 1992-1993 300SD with a 3.5L in it? The 1993 300E with the 3.2L? And now the S350 with a 3.7L!! Why couldn't MB get it right and call them the 350SD and 320E instead of waiting until the reformatting of badges in 1994?(S350D, E320) Why don't they just call it the S370?

They have been doing it for awhile, the new C240 is really a C260. I thought they were a 2.4L 4 banger.
