Great idea but is it art?

Horowitz began his "National Dinner Tour" last year as a way to explore the idea of community among strangers. Since then he has driven a leaky 1984 Toyota RV from the organic chicken farms of southern California to the hallowed halls of Yale University, in search of food and conversation -- which he documents on his Web site, www.ineedtostopsoon.com.

I think his name was Harold. Isn't that where he met Maude?

You know, never knew his name. My friends and I called him "Pletchard Gigland." He was homeless by choice although he had parents who lived about 10 miles away, or so he said. Saw him at the donut shoppe once in awhile.

I think it’s a great idea!! Wish I'd have thought of that when I was in my 20s.

About it being art, there was a transformation of art within western culture starting in about the 16th century where the art of the everyday scene became a popular means of representation. That trend continues to this day. One of the key elements of this type of art was that representations were noted for their lack of idealized or romanticized presentation. A painter named Peter Bruegel the elder is considered one of the first master practitioners of this art form which art historians and mere posers such as myself call genera art.

Can there be a better performance art form than spending time and a meal with strangers? It would be a wonderful series of events to experience and chronicle by narrative and/or photo. Bet that the closest most of us have come to this kind of random intimate encounter is by hitchhiking as a form of experience rather than a means of travel.

We could do it but I bet folks would probably look at you funny if you randomly asked them out to lunch. It's like that guy on some Sunday TV news show who tosses a dart behind his back at a map. The difference is that he has a budget, a huge budget.
