If the initial road tests are to be believed, the 7 speed auto might be a bit quicker than the 6 speed manual. The new C-Class V-6 350 is posting slightly faster 0-100Km/h times with the auto than the manual.

It's confusing, but maybe he's referring to the "Tiptronic" capabilities of the system. There are '+' 'es and '-' 'es to every tiptronic transmission(really bad pun that later model 210 and 211 owner's and mechanics would get).
