Unhappy Retirement is looming !

I'm just coming up to 60. I am thinking of taking TESOL or English teacher training to see me through my later years.

http://www.tesol.net/teslprog.teach.html

.....I'm unmarried and have the travel bug...... bad.

I realize that I am not going to be doing this job of auto tech' forever and would like to still remain useful doing something less physically demanding.

The main attraction is that is allows me to travel too, something I have to stop myself doing when I have time and money.

I have been to all the European countries, driving semi-truck out of the UK in 1970/1/2/3 and again in 1985/6/7/8. and spent 3 months in Russia over two years in 2003 and 2004.

I've flown the Atlantic from UK to USA 33 times and a couple of times to Central Europe...Would love to teach in Volgograd University or on the Black Sea in Suchi or Rostov.

I am very fit and have no physical problems to take care of.

Anyone doing this here, and what do you have to say about your choice ?

I studied Japanese at the U of Wash in '85 and always wanted to go teach English in Japan. Might try to fall back on that myself.

A friend of mine I haven't seen in about 10 years popped up in cyberspace recently -- he's teaching English in China. Here 'tis:

I'll bet he wrote the piece and made it sound like someone else did. Unfortunately, I don't know how to contact him.

I've heard from friends who have taught in Japan that if you get a job with one of the companies that administers that kind of schooling, you'll struggle financially, and that the way to make a decent living is to organize your own small group seminars.

Wish I had more to give you.

I like the way you think. Keep us posted on how well it works out.

I have done a number of jobs for the experience or adventure. It has worked pretty well for me.
