hands free through car stereo
I'm looking for a hands free kit that doesn't require a headset or ear bud. Is there a device that uses the common 2.5mm jack found in just about any phone except Nokia and Ericsson? I saw something that clips to the receiver and broadcasts over FM but it doesn't look like it's worth money.
Ideally I'd like to hook up my phone to the factory phone connections in the S420. I'll gut the phone if necessary. Any recommendations or advice out there? Thanks, Sixto 95 S420 87 300SDL |
My parent's company used to sell this stuff. I still have a ton of units (does anyone want them for free?) that do exactly what you want but they are designed for the older Nokia units that plug into the base connector. We bailed on all the projects before we got to the 2.5mm jack phones and Bluetooth a few years ago.
I would reccomend getting a unit that has a microphone that attaches to your lapel since we had a lot of mic problems when used in the car. Interestingly enough we drove around in my mom's 300SDL to do testing :D In terms of specific models out there the RF units on the market were all pretty bad in terms of output audio through the radio. So try to find a place that doesn't charge you a restocking fee if at all possible. We gout our to work very well but weren't able to build them for all of the models of phones that we would have liked to due to engineering limitations. Good luck! P.S. I also have a ton of little capsule sized FM autoscanning radios that have a handsfree wired mic and earbud that plug into 2.5mm phones? Would anyone want some of these things? |
Bluetooth...
Check out a product called "Parrot". I have their model CK3000 in my SDL and CAN'T live without it!
Driving down the road with the cellphone in the trunk. Say "Cellphone".. "Home" and it will call home. Saying "Answer" or "Reject" will answer an incoming call or send it to voicemail. Plugs directly into the back of your radio and otherwise installs like any other car kit (microphone on A-pillar, power, ground, etc.) Took me 30 mins to install in the SDL. I think their website is www.parrot.fr. You can buy them from Expansys USA (www.expansys.com, I think) Only problem is it requires a Bluetooth phone. Scrapped my old phone and bought a Sony Ericsson T610 on eBay for $70 and it works perfectly. I think the Parrot was about $130 shipped when it was on sale. PM me if you need more info.. Neal |
The clip on FM works well for me
I picked up mine at RadioS**ck.
FoneFree brand was $20. It works well enough. I don't often talk in the car and we have a cell phone driving law here in NJ where you must be hands free and I dislike the headset. If you try it and don't like it I find RadioS**ck is very good about returns. |
