Conair razor cuts beard too long or too short

I have a goatee, and my girlfriend got me a "Conair Grooming System" (model TC350 if anyone cares) to keep it trimmed. The problem with it is that the plastic pieces that attach to it and determine the length of the hair go from 1/4 to 1/8. 1/4 is too long, and it looks sloppy, but then 1/8 is way too short (I have light hair and it is hard to see when short).

anybody know what I can do about this? I looked for additional sized plastic attachments (1/6 would be great) online but could not find anything. Any homemade solutions? the plastic piece is just a piece that keeps the razor a certain length from the face, maybe it can be rigged somehow.

Normally I really would not care, but I am starting a job as a teacher's aid soon and I need to look presentable.

You might try clipping with the thin end of a comb without a guard-try to find a comb that gives you the right size.

I learned to cut mine with scissors over the years.

I think I may have a trimmer like the one you mention, it's nearly worthless.

You can modify the 1/4 to cut a little shorter or use the 1/4 and trim a little with scissors . Personally I find the 1/4 just right.

I've had a goatee for about seven years now. I found the same thing with respect to most beard trimmers as you did-- either too long or too short.

So I just pull the comb part of the timmer off and trim without it. Simply hold it close enough to your beard to cut any stray hairs that are sticking out and work in the same direction that your hair grows. After a few tries you'll never think about using an adjustable trimmer again.

Quit complaining and go to the barber, spend $15 bucks, and get it done right!

Set it at 1/8 but don't let it touch your chin. I have the same model- you get onto it eventually. I even use it to trim my own hair now.

I have a conair that I got from bed bath and beyond, it has all sorts of attachments, but it is nto big.

It has 2 trim adapters, ranging from #1-5 and 6-10

I am not sure what those translate in lengths, but it seems like it has plenty of lengths to choose from.

I don't have a goatee or beard, sometimes I do though, and I use it and it allows me to find the right thickness.

A goatee? Thats so 1990's. The only type of person in which I can see a goatee fit is if you're a 35 year old Star Wars collector still sleeping under Luke Skywalker-print blankets. Honestly, not something thats stylish anymore or that even looks good. I guess I dislike goatee's or facial hair for that matter is because I see so many young kids with hair patches here and there, thinking that they look mature and "bad ass". What happened to the "never-out-of-style" clean shaven look?

Goatee's look good on certain people. If I don't have one I look like a fat old harry potter. I'd rather be out of style than look like that.

Anyone with a goatee is an automatic member!

Before, when I shaved everyday, I was forever nicking and bleeding in the lip and chin area - combination of tough beard and soft skin. I've had either a beard or goatee for ages, and I keep the face-scraping to a minimum. After a while you get pretty good with a decent pair of scissors and a comb to keep it looking neat.
