I've had an '84 for about 2.5 years, a 4 door turbo diesel. Its been great, and its great on long drives. I've never had a cold starting problem and although I have a block heater, I've never used it. Very reliable and solid, nice to drive. I needed new brake lines in the rear right after purchase, and I bought it with the AC needing to be charged but never have. It sucks in the summer time, but I don't drive it regularly which can actually be a probnlem with these cars. Check out the diesel forum for more info.
