Large-item shipping?

Has anyone shipped large/heavy items such as sofa's, dining tables, transmissions, etc., and what companies did you use to do so? I have a bunch of stuff I need to get rid of, and I want to keep the non-local-buyer option open.

I had a trans shipped to me via R&L Carriers. You can try some of the other carriers too (Watkins, Yellow, Red Ball, SuperTransport, etc.).
You put it on a pallet, they'll pick it up. (It does help if you have a forklift...if you don't, specify that you need a lift gate.)
Some companies, will give you a deal on half a truckload if you have that much stuff. Ask what sort of options they have.
They usually go by density, so you will not only need dimensions, but weight also.
Hope this helps.

If you're lucky enough to live near a port that does moderate or better volume, try a broker and see what they can get you. I had 2 axles (~400lbs) shipped here from Minnesota on a pallet and the cost was $100. The freight line was Estes Express and it only took 4 days. The brokerage companies get major discounts on truck shipping (typically 60% or so) but they add their fee. It might not save you any money, but having them deal with all the details could be worth it.

I've had some good luck with www.shipgreyhound.com in shipping some of my larger amplifiers. You will need to deliver it to one of their terminals and the person reciving it will have to pick it up from the other terminal as well.

I've also had a w123 bumper shipped to me on greyhound too, cost around $30 I think it was.

I have used shipgreyhound also, with good results.

Also, if the item is expensive, Creaters and Freighters is a good company.
