Any Microsoft Flight Simulator enthusiasts out there?

Are there any here? I enjoy flying on FS2004, I've also had FS2000, FS98. and FS5.0

here too.

I am a fairly large fan of Flight Simulator. I have FS2004 and play it weekly. I have also had FS98 and modded it to the point where it contained almost 100 planes. But FS2004 is a great thing to mess around on if you have some free time or you are just bored.

I also have the full thrustmaster setup so I have all of the pedals and joysitck as well as the throttle adjuster, which makes it even funner to mess around with.

My Dad had FS installed on his machine...not sure what version...had the joystick too.

Unfortunately, I will never become a pilot...I can't even taxi w/o crashing the plane!

All I have is the flightyoke by CH Products. I have quite a few freeware planes downloaded on it, including these:
Airbus:
A340
A380

Boeing:
707-300
727-200/200Adv.
737-200
737-700
747-200

Douglas:
DC-8-21/54F/61/63/71/72
DC-9-30
MD-80

Saab:
340B

Sud-Aviation:
Caravelle

Vickers:
VC-10

You can see, I like the vintage jets most of all.

I've become pretty good with FS98. Never did get the newer versions or download any new planes..............didn't even know you could do this.

But, who can land the 737 in 1/4 mile visibility, 90% of the time, manually of course??

Sure makes the mouth dry and the jewels pull up tight.

Well, I set FS2004 to real world weather and landed a Boeing 727-200 at Destin airport when Hurricane Dennis was making landfall, and I did that manually. I have downloaded these older aircraft that you must fly manually during landing and takeoff instead just pressing some autopilot pilots and autolanding, which can make for some white knuckle flying.

That's a significant achievement. If the winds have serious gusts it's usually an impossible task for me.

Just cannot get the airplane to respond fast enough without an overcorrection.

I played with simulators a few years ago, but totally sucked at it.... took the fun out of it... Have they changed in recent versions that they might have a training piece and its relatively easy to get to the point of having fun?

I'd love to get another set of flight controls and a new version of the game..... Any web pages dedicated to the game with cheats or tips?

I don't imagine they make a version for PS2?

Also, how fast of a machine do you need? Not sure if I could use it on my laptop.... bought last year, but with the rate machines go out of style....

Like any real airplane, you need to start out with the easiest airplanes first. The Cessna 172 is typical. It's very easy to fly, responds to the control inputs instantly, and is forgiving of a mistake on landing. After you master the basics on this airplane, you can graduate up to a Learjet. Also very responsive, but heavier and much, much faster. Things happen at triple the speed.

Then, you can go to a commercial airliner. Control inputs must always be gentle because the airplane takes time to respond. Very easy to overcorrect the airplane. A small mistake on final approach always leads to a crash.

Then, when you can fly the commercial airliner very well, you set up the simulator so that you can see nothing. Fly in 1/4 mile visibility while only watching the gauges. Make a turn for final approach, intercept the localizer, and follow the glide slope down until you finally see the runway lights. It's still no easy task to land it at this point, because you don't have any runway reference cues.

Makes you have some profound respect for the two guys up front when you fly on an actual commercial airliner, especially in bad weather.

Here's a good website for flightsim enthusiasts http://www.flightsim.com
There are no cheats for the game, but plently of tips. It is strictly a computer game, nothing for PS2. I'm running it on my Compaq Presario, it has a 3.0MHz P4 processor, 768MB of ram which I'll later increase to 1GB, 80GB HD, and it currently uses a integrated video card, although I'll upgrade that later too. Default scenery has no problems with the current setup, but very detailed downloaded scenery will cause some stuttering.
