Random search in NY subways?

Thinking out loud......If you have the intention of doing harm in the subways of NY, there's no problem...Why ? Because the stop and search is voluntary.

If you do not submit to a search, you cannot ride the trains, so, you can walk out of the subway...walk a few blocks and enter another subway, repeat this exersise util entering a subway without being searched.

Does this sound like searches on a voluntary/random basis are a waste of time ?

Dunno about you....but the word .." Hypocrisy" springs to mind.

But, back to the plot......Do you feel more/less secure in a subway now ?

Can't comment...I havent been on a subway in 2 years. BUt I would feel far safer if this "Racial Profiling" paranoia was dropped and people went after the most likely suspects.

This happened just yesterday:

I was directing a program over at the IRS headquarters in MD.

To enter the facility, I have to go through a scanner, as well as my bag, etc. I then show my liscense and have to be signed in by an employee.

Around lunchtime, there was a fire alert. They evacuated the building.

I and a few of my workmates who also aren't IRS emplyees re-entered without ANY security.

Makes you wonder how easy it'd be to call in a bomb scare, then have several people attemt to re-enter. One is bound to make it in. Then what??

The security in many of these government buildings is pretty much a joke. Cars are routinely looked around and under, but not in the trunk! I guess no one hides bombs there unless they're in England.

Last week I entered the IRS headquarters with a box cutter in my bag. I wasn't stopped. I didn't even realize it was there until the next day when I was "caught" and it was confiscated until I exited at the end of the day.

Both the IRS and HUD have all that, minus the physical check.

The Ronald Reagan building does look in the trunk.

We ought to have a thread on racial profiling. It's quite a subject. I torn in both directions on it.
