We've just had a hurricane...

... in Birmmingham England!!

Weird. I saw it from my bedroom window. there are loads and loads of trees down and houses with bad damage.

Not sure about hurricanes but they say it was a T4.

I didn't expect that in the middle of England!

Do you mean a tornado? which is a funnel cloud...and far smaller than a Hurricane.

Good question

I've just checked the news, it was a tornado (I wasn't sure of the difference to be honest, not had much experience with either!!).

Apparantly the wind speed was 130mph+, it went very very dark too, quite scary!

Well a tornado can be anything from a few meters in diameter to almost a kilometer wide.....

A huricane is hundreds or thousands of kilometers wide..

I know they are rare on your side of the pond.

I never heard of tornadoes in that part of the world.

So I looked up the story on the net.

Here it is:

BBC : Mini-tornado brings chaos to city

Glad you weren't hurt!

Thanks. My friend has been out with his digital camera. I'll post some pictures if there are any decent ones.

You got lucky, that seemed like a fairly small one....

A strong one will take the asphault off the road and flatten anything that is near it....

Glad to hear you didn't get injured or lose anything.

Glad you're not hurt. Could have been much worse had there been trailer parks in the area. Are trailer parks popular in England?

Don't think we have the same scale trailor parks over here. We have loads of tourist sites dotted aaround the countryside with lots of caravans and mobile homes though.

I remember being in Virginia a few years ago, I was in Richmond watching trailor parks in Virginia being destroyed on the news by a tornado - that was scary.

Glad u are okay.

Texas is part of tornado alley, so we see our share...

...btw, hurricane strength is measured as categories (i.e. Category 1,2,3...the higher the number, the stronger the winds).

Tornados are measured with an "F" factor. F1 - F5 with a 5 having the highest winds.

Moore OK got an F5 about 7 years ago...saw the damage a few weeks later while driving through...amazing what those winds can do!
