Wife of DaimlerChrysler's Incoming CEO Charged After Party

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- The wife of incoming DaimlerChrysler AG Chief Executive Dieter Zetsche was charged in what police say was a party at which more than 20 underage drinkers were ticketed.
Gisela Zetsche, 55, had been scheduled to appear in court Thursday, but that hearing was adjourned until Sept. 13. She faces a $500 fine if convicted of the charge, having an open house party.

Dieter Zetsche was not at home during the party, Chrysler spokeswoman Shawn Morgan said.

Dieter Zetsche, who led the resurgence of DaimlerChrysler's Chrysler Group in the United States, last month was named to replace Juergen Schrempp as the head of the world's fifth-largest carmaker at the beginning of next year.

Gisela Zetsche's attorney, Michael Schloff, did not return several calls from The Associated Press seeking comment on Wednesday and Thursday.

According to a police report, officers in the Detroit suburb of Bloomfield Township said they received complaints late June 18 of noise, drinking and people throwing things at passing vehicles from Zetsche's home.

Gisela Zetsche said she bought beer for the 19th birthday party of a young man who was living with the family for the summer, according to the report. The legal drinking age in Michigan is 21.

Police said they found about 100 people at the party. After police arrived, some of the people ran through the house and out the front door, according to the report. Officers said they stopped about 30 of them and found about 10 more hiding in closets in the house.

Police found two beer kegs -- one already empty -- on the patio, as well as beer bottles, an open bottle of margarita mix and half a dozen empty liquor bottles.
