What's up with Italian Speedometers?

I notice they ALL seem to start at like 10 mph and 100 or 200 RPMS or higher, not the gauge, but even with the car off the needle is set high. Anyone know what the deal is with that? I looked on ebay and even Ferraris do this.

If you think that's fun . . . consider that there was a time when Ferraris bound for North America had speedos that max'd out at 85 MPH.

Well at least with an 85mph speedo you can say "Officer I had no idea how fast I was going" with a perfectly straight face!

Why do you need to know your speed below 10mph? I guess they figure you don't need to know that.

That's because Italians are all ready going 10 mph before they turn the key!

It's that tongue-thing again, isn't it?

These from ebay, ones a 308 and a 360 i think and a 348, i cant remember but they're all Ferraris. The 550 or 575 didnt do it though? And if they're idling, they got no gas in the tank and its really cold and theres no oil pressure.
