It's equivalent to over 3 dollars US a gallon in Canada.

Thought it wasn't that bad there until I realized the prices are for regular unleaded. MAN!
But you all have government health-care to pay for. How'd this get political?

And in Sweden we pay nearly $6/gallon. Think of that.

Howdy All,
I'm already crying at the pump and I can get about 30 mpg out of the PT Cruiser. By the way unleaded reg. is $2.84 a gal. here in El Mirage, Cal. They say that because of the barrel price expect to see a sharp increase at the pump. Just in time for Labor day weekend. Who'da thunk it?¿

Have fuel prices impacted your driving habits yet?
Not quite for me. I drive so little anyway (less than 5 mi/day roundtrip to work) that I think fuel prices would have to approach $4 before I'd oil the bicycle. It's just so bleeding hot outside! It's okay taking the bike October - April. Forget May - September. Unless fuel got to $5. Then I'd buy separate deodorant for work and let my staff take their chances. Bot |

I've been burning about $10 an hour on fuel, $2.25 a gallon is my boiling point, I looked at 3 diesels today. My fuel is coming out of my own pocket so $300 a week is not fun.

Yeah but you're in Canada so nothing to complain about compared to US...
(political) Anyway so if a Hummer gets what 7 mpg on the hwy???? (guess) At 2.75 a gallon RUG here ....and it's 180 miles to DisneyWorld, what does it cost my clueless arrogant ass neighbors to take their whinney little brats to see the M O U S E...?

I also notice no one seems to drive even a little bit different, no one slowing up, accelerating a bit slower, maybe I just don't notice anyone doing it. Myself I'm at least trying to do these things, certainly at work with the buses, they've had memos up the yinger about reducing idling time, and these other factors like hard acceleration. They didn't say we had to reduce speed though, we are governed at about 70mph, but I'll bet it's coming. Well maybe. That's another thing, I bet the bus biz in going to see alot more business too, for the type of work we do into Chicago O'Hare and Midway. Bet we increase rates again if the fuel keep going up. I'm trying to ride my cycle as much as I can. Gilly

You won't see immediate affects in the short term, but in the long term if prices stay at this area and increase even more, you will see a change.

I'm really afraid of what heating oil is going to be at this winter. Very glad I just got new windows and basement insulation put on the house. Like most of you, I really hope this kills off some of the ridiculous gas hogs that are still plentiful on Canadian highways in spite of the price. Why aren't North Amarican car builders seeing the writing on the wall? In Canada, VW TDI's are outselling the gasoline models, yet, besides the pickup trucks, the smart-for-2 and the most recent MB offering, there are still no other Diesel cars sold in Canada. In Europe, Ford has a Diesel Focus, GM has Diesel Opels, etc. Do we have to start importing Diesel cars from France to get the big-3 to sit up and take notice? Dave |

The prices changed my driving habits 10 years ago. I sold my 95 Wrangler recently and it had 76,000 miles on it. It was a daily driver. I have had my PT Cruiser 36 months it has 28,000 miles on it. The first year I had it I put 11,000 miles on it, 8,000 in Nov, Dec, and Jan.That is the dogs running season. I put 1 1/2 miles on it to work and back and about 50 miles once a week to do my shopping. Then I have a few unscheduled trips like to the vet. One trip to Sacramento this year to pick up a puppy. A trip to Frisco a couple years ago to pick up a dog. A trip to Vegas 2 1/2 years ago non dog related and that's about it. Just can't aford to go anywhere.

I would include changing transport to hybrid as a change in habit. Dang the English language!
As some critical consumer mass of people reach their own financial critical threshold the manufacturer who is first off the line will make the big bucks. |
