Engine braking / trans question
I have been currious about this for some time now and figured this would be the place to ask.
My wife has a 1999 Volvo T5. I have noticed when I drive it that when I let off the gas, the engine speed slows down but the car does not. Yet in my car, when I let off the gas, the engine speed slows down as the car slows down and helps slow the car down quicker. Why does Volvo do this? Fuel effiency? Just to piss me off? Why? Do the new MB do this same thing? My friend with Ford (he does not know any better ) SHO says his engine does not slow down. Just currious. Thanks

Yeah it seems to be a common thing I've noticed in a lot of new cars, my guess is better fuel efficiency. It does annoy the hell out of me too, since the engine braking of the 300D is pretty significant especially at high speeds.
