where to get Canadian dollars?

Better to exchange US$ for C$ at a bank on the US side or Canadian side? We're talking a couple hundred dollars.

You can use your ATM card at a Canadian machine... if you want to keep it simple.

most canadian businesses accept u.s. currency at prevailing exchange rate of 20 percent.

i got a fiver you can have! just got back a few days ago.. use your credit cards (debit for cash).. best exchange rate and the simplest.. at the border there are exchange booths.. U$1=C$1.18 at Sarnia, ON. 1=1.15 Windsor, ON.. some banks will not do it unless you have an account with them.. there are also exchange places in major cities.. otherwise you might just get 1=1.

Some credit cards charge for foreign exchange. Call customer service first to avoid ugly surprises. I usually do all of the above, get some cash at a local bank before I leave and draw on Canadian ATMs while there. Charge anything larger than pocket change on VISA.
