I had an ultrasonic one that detected motion, but it interfered with my TV remote. Gave it to my brother. His place was broken into a few months later and what did they steal? You guessed it, the damn motion detector.
I later installed a hard-wired system that worked great, but the installation of all the door and window sensors was a pain. If I were to do another one, I think I would go the motion sensing route now that they have perfected them. I currently use strategically placed decals that warn of a system (that doesn't exist). I have watchful neighbors and a loaded .357. Google "smarthome". They have some pretty good stuff, but a bit pricey. Wes |

Why not give some alarm companys a call for a quote I'm sure they will be happy to explain different systems pros and cons and then you could go from there.

eBay has tons of systems most of them are the same ones used by ADT and other companies for substantially less than what the companies charge. I added a remote keypad for $50 that I bought directly from honeywell, ADT wanted $500 for the exact same unit.
