Who is Pedro, and why should I vote for him?

Sounds like something a 73 year old man would say huh? In the past few months, I've seen notebooks, T-shirts, maybe even bumper stickers that read "Vote For Pedro". I know this fad will be in the same box as cars with tail fins, power bracelets, pokemon cards, and the "WHAZZUP!!" guys (I miss them) in a few months, but who started this? What's the origin of this new pop culture fad?

Napoleon befriends a new kid in school...a Hispanic kid named Pedro. Together they decide to launch a school presidential campaign against the popular blond who is also running. (Vote for Pedro).

Napoleon's dance routine in the "talent" portion of the campaign is what sends Pedro over with the popular votes that get him elected.

I lost the grasp of reality the first time I saw the movie, but found it hilarious the second time around...

I had to suffer thru a large part of that movie on a bus trip with about 35 kids. I just kept thinking how much nicer it would have been to be sitting in the dentist's chair. One of the worst movies I ever saw.

Booooo! ND is a GREAT movie!!! Coming-of-age in the 80's, I knew too many kids like that. The moon boots, the applique t-shirts, etc... Napoleon reminded me of a kid I met in HS (freshman year). No one would talk to the guy, so I would try to say hello every day in class. That kid wore a fake Members Only jacket EVERY DAY, regardless of the weather. Anyway, he turned me on to U2, and some other great bands. He always wore headphones and, it turns out, really knew his stuff musically. Oddball, though, that's for sure.

I second cscmc1's Boooo...

ND is a great movie on so many levels. I have seen it 11 times now, 7 times with my kids and the rest by myself. One of the nice aspects about this film - no sex, no violence, no foul language and it's still funny as hell.

If you look at www.rottentomatoes.com you'll find people either loved it or hated it. Perhaps you never knew any characters like those portrayed in ND and therefore can't relate, or perhaps it's just not your kind of movie - but to say it's one of thw worst movies you ever saw and that you'd rather spend time in a dentists chair (!) makes me think you just don't get it.

Mrs. Azimyth made me sit through this movie. She bribed me with ice cream and affection. I slept through the bulk of it. The second time she made me see it (because I slept through the first showing) was funnier. One has to approach the film with a certain loopy attitude. I voluntarily watched it a third time with the younger Azimyths. That time it was pretty amusing. I suppose one must develope an affection for the charachters to fully appreciate the elements of the story line.

I still think I'd vote for Summer Wheatley.....were it a secret ballot

My 11 year old is way ahead of you. She seems to have enjoyed it her first time through as much as you did your third time. I have only seen the few bits and blurbs that my dentist would allow.

Then this should amuse you. After I saw the show the last time, out of puerile curiousity I looked for a time machine on ebay. They had one listed complete with crystals! I flagged the auction and apparently it sold (Though I forget for how much).

Some people will buy anything.....kinda like liberalism
