Increased fuel cost...What follows?
The last time fuel made a significant jump in cost, so did almost everything else including the cost of a gallon of milk, from $1.98 a little over a year ago to around to $2.59 today. Other living expenses have also gone way up as a result of those increased fuel costs.
Now today, with $3 to $5 per gallon fuel, and the possibility of even greater increases from these figures, what can we now expect to pay for a gallon of milk, or home heating oil, items we buy everyday? What effects will this have for you and your family? |

Everything will go up. Good. I hate this whole culture of consumerism. A good amount of money moving hands is a good thing, but too many people get reallyi big headed about their new toys. Years ago it was a sign of achievement to have a piano in your home. Today it's a flatscreen plasma TV.

Revolution is only a meal (or a paycheck?) away. Examples abound. This economy is not going to sustain higher gas price, higher defense spending, higher deficit, higher unemployment rate (especially in NO, no one has a job any more), higher fuel cost this winter, higher housing price, higher health care cost, higher public discontent, and higher interest rate (inching higher anyway).
But...........lower wages. So, we have the GOP to thank for. Horray!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What follows? Hopefully the downfall of the massive SUV's and pickup trucks used mainly for groceries, picking up kids from school, and going to the movies. What an utter waste of fuel.
Didn't the Bush administration boast about lowering the unemployment rate? If this map is true, then even I bought into those claims.

Things I'm going to change: Make less travel into town, combine needs better, one trip into town per day (I'm 8 miles round trip) such as buying 4 gallons of milk in one trip, all other food items based from same. Plan out of town events, visits, etc., considering all alternatives for transport.
Call it cutting the fat! While I've never been a power boater, I feel less guilty with my small sailboat, or did until two weeks ago, I sold it, but pleasure trips will cost more now and the idea of cultivating a new garden seems opportune and welcome. Things will change for me, I just am having trouble realizing this all is real and mind opening and is really before me as a means for settling my own survival in a comforting and acceptable manor.....Did it before, don't mind being simple again! Better for family value! |

Anything made out of plastic is going to go up. Ever look around and realize how many things are made of plastic of some sort or another? Pretty soon, vynil will be the an option and leather will be standard. (well, ok, maybe not leather,...cloth is more likely)
What might be next? Little cars...the kind we see on pictures of International Auto Shows...you know.. those oddly shaped, sometimes goofy looking four wheelers with lots of glass and a paint color(s) you wouldn't want to be caught dead in. Also...that Bricklin guy is going to push his line of Chery cars alot. Speed limits will be more strictly monitored. Any trips will be considered for combining with other trips/chores. Probably buy mid-grade gas more often than premium...maybe mix the two. More filtering of wvo. Maybe look for a good deal on a Fiat 500...those little V2's are kinda cute, ya know.

My SIL complains. They have a Ford truck with a big engine and nothing to haul. They also have something like $300+ in cable/DSL/celphone bills. I don't wanna hear it!

No one will every guilt me about boating. I will not feel guilt while opening the throttles. Who cares if you are burning 50gph life is to short not to ever have fun. Gas has been $3+ at the fuel docks all summer and so diesel hasn't been far behind. So far the marine industry has not been affected. I don't care if diesel is $10 a gallon; a 68ft Hat with a pair of 16 cylinder MTU's in the bilge sucking 188gph is still what dreams are made of!

Howdy All,
This is somewhat of a repeat of a post I had in a thread that is long gone. The rising price of gas won't change my driving habits much from the last 20 years. 1985 I bought a Dodge Colt that got 40mpg+. 10 years later I sold it with 115,000 miles on it. I bought a 95 Jeep Wrangler. 10 years later I sold it with 75,000 miles on it. I bought the PT Cruiser 7-2002 I have 30,000 miles on it. The first year I had it I put 11,000 miles on it and 8,000 was done in 3 months when I take the dogs to their running competitions. Except for the comp. trips , 2-800 mile trips to pick up dogs and 1 trip to Vegas I haven't been anywhere in the 3 years that I've had the Cruiser ( I get about 30 MPG highway driving). I just can't aford to go anywhere.
